Crazy Knit Lady

Equivalent to "Cat Lady". No, no cats. Not now. And in the past never in extremis. Two was the maximum ever along with two dogs and two birds and two fish. Kids. What can I say. Now no cats. But knitting, yeah.

You see before you a yogurt maker I got for a dollar yonks ago. It was missing two jars, I had to use two jam jars for a while. It never had a cover. But a dollar. Hey.

Then Daughter found 3 jars at a flea market for 50cents each. You'll note yogurt maker is nudging its way to a deluxe model now. No more jelly jars, All jars (and a spare) are now milk white glass.

But I got tired of wrapping it in towels while it did its biz, you know?

And I had leftover wool. And knitting in the morning has become a sort of meditation for me after breakfast. I am hoping my BP will improve, as in slide downwards, as I'm getting a bit tired of my weekly dates with my doctor. Not my type.

So tada! behold the yogurt sweater!

I am hoping Ramana will see this as he makes his own yogurt too and as far as we are concerned we are the only two in the whole universe who do so.

  1. I had one of those yogurt-makers once! Wish I had it again.

  2. It's like my coffee grinder and my food processor, no built in obsolescence like the appliances today :)

  3. Nope, we make it. Like most items here, way too expensive! We have a maker but I used to put it in jars and put blankets over them. Very fetching look in the decor, screams "hippy".

  5. No yogurt making here, but you know that already. I do like the yogurt sweater... real cool!

  6. Catching up a bit, read your last several posts. I feel a kinship with much of what you've written, esp. the view in the rear view mirror, or as Springsteen sang "...check my luck in the mirror.."

Regarding your BP (can't help myself, but at least it's pro bono and can be ignored) has your doc considered carvedilol? It's a beta blocker that has some success with patients who's bp is resistant to other drugs...

I'm going to do some travelling, leaving this week to go to LA to meet a friend, then in Oct. we're going to Europe for a bit.

Cheers, my friend. See you down the creek.

  7. Well, nice to see your knitting, someone tried to teach me and I was hopelessly all thumbs...I've never seen a yogurt maker before. How long does it take?

You can make it in just about anything - even a slow cooker.

  12. E:

Persists with the knitting, practise with simple garter stitch maybe?

I leave mine to "cook" for about 12-14 hours as I like it thick.

It's part of the rhythm of my week now.

  13. Yogurt makers! Not a bad idea, really. Funny how we pick up and drop these fads. But it's not such a bad idea. Maybe I'll start making my own yogurt again.

  14. My mother used to make yogurt in one of those machines with the little cups. I never could quite get used to it, although I am a fan of yogurt now.

  15. I love the idea of a yoghurt maker, though I don't love yoghurt quite enough to consider getting one. The stylish sweater lends it mystery: Who could guess what's hidden within?

  16. I make my own yogurt in quart size Mason jars which I place in my little Igloo cooler with hot water. Works wonderfully and in about 7 hours, Voila! Cheaper than buying quarts of organic yogurt and I know exactly what is in it.

I just have to teach my husband to keep back a couple of table spoons from the last jar so I have starter for the next batch ...
