So yeah, this intricate knitting style called intarsia is back in my life again as I desperately wanted to create a puffin for a young man in my life who is absolutely crazy about puffins.
It's engrossing work as every line has to be focused on and counting every stitch is a given but it's enchanting to see the image emerge out of all those bobbins. I have a huge fascination for these wonderful birds myself. They make me laugh out loud every time I see them.
I found these incredible Irish dancers recently. The Gardiner Brothers. They'll dance to anything. Here they are with Abba.
And here they are giving The Nutcracker a bash.
Kinda how I feel hearing Juzzie Smith. These guys made me smile too.

Ugh, hard work, but nice resukt. Puffins are a fun lot. Thanks for the smile.
ReplyDeleteIt does the brain good, a great distraction from the madness.

Wow, they are good. Wish I'd learned tap dancing instead of heading off to the beach when I didn't "get it" right away.
ReplyDeleteYour knitting amazes me, I don't have the patience for such complicated work.
I did tap and the Irish stuff but I never had confidence in my own dancing. Too self-conscious.

Super footwork. I think I have seen them on YouTube before. Well worth another viewing!
ReplyDeleteYes, Chris, they won all sorts of competitions, they have that floaty feather like quality and then they hit the ground. Love them.

My absolute joy last week was having our grandaughter here. She is 21. She had not seen us in awhile and had not been here for even longer. She started going through my sweater closet and kept falling in love with sweaters I had made in the 80's!! She took 4 back with her. One was a vest from a British pattern that had dachshunds on the front. I still can't believe I made it and she was in love with it!! I often wondered what would happen to those sweaters. And while she was here I taught her a simple ribbed stitch and she made a lovely hat.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this story Mary - and am so glad your granddaughter appreciated your lovely work after so many years. May she wear these treasures in good health!

I love puffins too. Fun fact: when they're flying they can flap their wings up to 400 times a minute.
ReplyDeleteAnd also they swim great distances underwater using their wings Nick.
DeleteI adore them.

Wow! Irish dancing has evolved amazingly from when I dreaded the weekly lessons at Mrs. LeGear's! Those guys are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Gardiner Brothers link. They are fabulous and my partner already knew about them.
