I imagine many of us are. About where THIS is all going. The wee tiny planet I mean. This earth we walk on.
I try and stay away from the news these days, Most unlike me as I'm a bit of a news junkie. The Guardian, Morning Joe until he and Mika snivelled off down to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring of Orange Jesus (OJ). Many of the US papers which I once respected are now gone sideways as well, kowtowing like cowards in advance to what is to come.
We are extremely nervous in Canada too as our conservative top dog is a Heritage Foundation graduate and a worshipper of the OJ and could be our next PM as Trudeau just ain't got it according to most electors, see polls.
We know what all this will bring. Christian Fascism. Extreme.
I mentioned I try and stay away from the news but I have to open one eye and check it out more often than I like. PBS, Irish Times. CBC - our national news has weirded out. No good insightful coverage anymore.
OJ proceeds with his appalling and terrifying cabinet appointments. One more evil than the next. I don't often use that word but evil and indecent and criminal comes to mind from all surrounding OJ. And the outrage, though unsurprising, about Joe Biden pardoning his son was laughable. He would never have pardoned him only that OJ promised to incarcerate him forever on a retribution tour of revenge on the "enemies within". And that list is terrifying. Military tribunals, etc. All for the offence of disloyalty. Baby Bush set the precedent for torture and OJ would relish that.
He WILL suspend future elections. He will encourage other countries to go far, far, right and suspend theirs. And plunder every treasury he can get those orange hands on. Women will live as in 1850 with no votes, no divorce, no health care and fair game for any predator - and there are many in the cabinet and elsewhere.
It shows the weakness in the whole farcical structure of government in the US when OJ can infest the Supreme Court and other judicial bodies with his briberies or blackmail and turn the whole shaky edifice on its head into an unrestrained oligarchy/autocracy.
I am chillingly reminded of when Nazi Germany tried to "export" all the Jews and when that failed, resorted to prison camps, followed by death camps.
Wait and see as all these countries he asked to house them are now rejecting OJ's attempts to export his millions of emigrants. He is already talking of numbering them. Carefully following in the steps of his hero Hitler and Project 2025.
I so want to be wrong in all of the above. But alas and alack I don't think I am.
My heart is with my American friends. Just about breaking for them.
Come to Newfoundland, you would be welcome on this isolated rock that everyone seems to forget about. You'd love it here.
We keep a very low profile.
I wish I could say the your rant is wrong and you are being a drama queen. I cannot.
ReplyDeleteMe too EC, me too. And it may be even worse as in forced births (of whites only) and I didn't even drag in all the wars and Putin handed Europe on a platter, my Irish people are terrified.

No your rant is not wrong and many others could have so easily written it. I try and not read the latest but find it impossible, just have to know.
ReplyDeleteYou're like me Marge, I want to live in a peaceful way but can only do that NOT looking even at limited news bits. There is also so much bravery out there too, so many taking their journalistic shots at OJ and I know they are risking their lives.

It is chilling to contemplate the future. Yet the American people voted for Trump with eyes wide open, knowing exactly what he had in store for the country. The chickens will indeed come home to roost very soon, by which time it is going to be too late. Like you, I fear that in Canada we are about to go down the same path. Whatever our problems, Polièvre is not the solution.
ReplyDeleteExactly David. Out here in NL our liberal premier is appallingly incompetent and the Conservative leader is smart and on the ball it appears.
DeleteI fervently hope that none of the above comes to pass but wishes aren't horses as my old granny used to say.

I don't know what to say, I avoid the news and haven't really studied history so my grasp of the situation is slippery but I know enough to know I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteAll I can hope is he is interrupted
There are rumours of civil war Kylie as many states are not going to follow along with his horrific policies. I don't think his eyes are on Australia but we know they're on Canada as he wants, particularly, our vast water resources.

We are fortunate to live in the countries we do, far from perfect but a whole lot better than across your border.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Andrew, way, way down below and to the right of us. We are far too close to OJ and know it.

I do read the news, but not so much the speculation about his cabinet choices. I'll wait until that gets settled. I've always loved history and haven't completely given up hope that he won't be able to completely destroy things. We'll have to see if there's a backlash by the people who voted for him because they thought their lives would be better. I think climate change is one of the greatest long-term dangers. We've been too successful as a species and there are way too many of us. Also, Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea want to tear down the old international order. Andy is almost 90, I'm a few weeks away from 85. So we no doubt won't be around long enough to see the very worst of it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Thank you.
My age is on my side too Jean. I hate to see the world my granddaughter and assorted young relatives will inherit. The nuclear threat is very real if a drunk's fingers are on the buttons playing at war games encouraged by OJ. But yes, his base will wake up when their SS is stolen along with medicare.

The next four years will be a crap shoot. May it only be four years! News is hard to come by. Even the Irish Times has a paywall.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the paywalls. And us old pensioners have enough expenses to manage. I do support the Guardian when they pass out the odd deal for a few months. And some of my pods post long opinion pieces from respected journos.

Is it true that we would be welcome in Newfoundland? If so I am going to start investigating that possibility.
ReplyDeleteI do believe Canada will allow refugees from political persecution by OJ into the country. Especially if Newfoundland is mentioned. We are far too underpopulated as a province and could use some fresh eyes and ambition.

Canada, and a lot of other countries, does not readily accept persons with disabilities, I'm doubly screwed.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh e, I am so very sorry. And I so hope you're not affected by his promised trashing of what he calls "Obama Care" which will see so many without coverage. A monster at the helm of all of it is terrifying. I saw The Apprentice last night and Cohn really shaped his personality. Another evil one.

Come to ... . Yes, but is your healthcare any better than what frustrated Americans are dealing with? I think not. Just different. I'm not speaking of national healthcare, but NFLD. For example, you being hospitalized for what was it about 4 days? Here it would have been at least 2 weeks, and with a more definitive outcome for you. Nfld has the worst healthcare in all of Canada. Outrageous. Emma
ReplyDeleteI would disagree Emma. Completely. Speaking for myself I have had incredible healthcare and my team of medical specialists are the best. In Newfoundland.
DeleteAre you aware (a) that medical bankruptcies are normalized in the US? The only "first world" country in the world where this happens. And (b) that the reason that the CEO who was killed recently was more than likely for denial of health coverage to an insured because of "preexisting conditions?:" And (c) that women's health care is so deficient that maternal deaths are also the worst in the so-called developed world. I could go on but do your own research.

NFLD healthcare is the worst IN CANADA. Even worse than the North. Emma
DeleteYou already stated worse than the US, now you're backtracking.. As I said, my experience in NL belies your opinion. I have no idea where you are getting it. And what "North"? North Pole? Arctic Circle?

Will you adopt me!? I've had so much twirling in my mind, I watch and read and I'm sure detrimental to my health. I moved on to BlueSky and the only place I follow news. Boo on Jo! The good journalistic and sanely smart guys and gals left X and joined so I don't feel so alone. And there is lots of earthly beauty there keeping me lifted.
ReplyDeleteBarely hanging by a string I fear and sleep horribly dreaming of me on the streets in my 70s waiting for my next meal. Wishing some days closer to being released from watching what's coming. Sounds horrible but it's all so sickening, frightening, and plain not right! I watched the goon at Notre Dame cathedral today, dumb golden tie. And side kick Starlink dude not far from his side. i hope you beloved country not sees any of this nonsense your way. Too many, too much money not enough sense! Evil liars. Thku for opening the door on this discussion, feels good to let it out! And I seriously would only take up a small room, hope it comes with a water view. 😂CJ
Oh CJ I totally sympathize and hurt for everyone. Bluesky keeps me sane too, reading the news from a different perspective and seeing all the positive photos and downright decency so lacking in the 'other place'. Elonia and OJ, crime partners. What's coming is beyond grasping at the moment in its ugliness and lack of humanity. I hear militia is on the rise to assist him in his arrests and detention. I keep thinking there are more good than the other kind in our societies as a whole. I take the time to madidate on all the good in my world, even simple things like my little plants blooming in the winter. Or a simple meal. Or a wee candle flickering in front of my brother's picture.
DeleteI wish I had a spare room, but not anymore. I do hope Canada reaches out to refugees from the evil regime south of us.

I agree that the next few years will be far worse than people are expecting. Trump is nothing but vengeful; will go after those he thinks have wronged him. The cabinet picks would be laughable if they weren't so horrifying. I'm self-employed; have Obamacare and have no idea what will happen if he does away w/it. Already see crying from veterans' groups and unions about cuts that are being planned; what the hell did they think they were voting for? Sad times but we must not give up. Must hope that good people in Washington like Jamie Raskin and Andy Kim will work hard to combat this monster.
ReplyDeleteElle - and your fearless rising star Jasmine Crockett. She is an amazing fighter and I saw her calling out BS today again. I sure hope OJ hasn't got her in his gunsights too. Yes, he will trash your healthcare and much, much more. I fear a kind of Brown-Shirts Brigade, only thrilled to turn on fellow citizens. Imagine all the J6ers let loose to wreak havoc on "enemies". Terrifying.
DeleteThe rule of law was abandoned by Merrick Garland who is utterly to blame for all of this horror.

WWW
Dear WWW, we've been echoing each other this week, which is not surprising given our world is collapsing in on us. I would wish to offer hope, but in all honesty I see none. Mankind is reaching the peak of his egotistical evolution. Only recently I watched a documentary on scientists playing at gods and researching how they can control the weather world-wide, to reverse climate change. At best they'll plunge us into a life-destroying ice age; at worst they'll fry us all.
ReplyDeleteI agree RJ, eminent collapse and a confluence of power, corruption, and an utter disregard for human life (see Gaza, et al) and this slow trickle of more and more inhumanity so that we are all numb to the worsening conditions around is. And become almost immune to evil. For the first time in my life I can see how Nazi Germany was tolerated. A slow trickle of more and more tolerance. And a few lone voices screaming in the void. It's all quite hopeless.

Feel yourself hugged, Mary.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that Brother Death feels the desire to (suddenly) end a certain idiots life. What I shall never understand: The idiots who would vote for such criminal an idiot.
Recently I read: Where is Harvey Lee Oswald when he is needed?
May brother death give him a chance.
Sean, yes I think we all feel this way, but then again you have the idiot sidekick waiting in the wings and the puppet master Elonia. I look forward to his obituary though.
