This is getting personal

Funny how that Iceland volcano seems awfully distant. Even though you sympathize with the people who are stranded all over Europe. And the backlog of travel, the desperation, the family emergencies that are unattended. Even the funeral of the Polish prime minister being affected.

But it's all so, well, distant, and the other-side-of-the-globe stuff.

And then the headline at the corner of the screen catches your eye.

Iceland Ash heads to Newfoundland.

And you think, wha'? This is the thanks we get for the many years of shopping sprees the Icelanders flew here for? They belch a pile of ash at us?

And now we're all grounded too? And how about my lungs?

  1. The ash and its fallout just keeps spreading, WWW. Increasingly it feels like a global village where many of us are stuck in the community hall and the chimney is blocked. In many ways, though, it's a relief to give the skies a break from air travel.

  2. I don't think your lungs will be affected unless the ash is pretty dense and is falling to the ground. Sorry to hear Newfoundland is now affected. Jenny is still stranded in York with no idea when she'll get back to Belfast. Quite a nightmare for her and thousands of others also stranded.

Stan - Surely a community hall where the front and back doors are blocked?

  6. Nick: I hoped to imply that with the phrase "stuck in". Obviously I failed!

  7. Hope it doesn't taint that wonderful blue sky you have there, WWW (as seen in your lovely photos).

Oh poor Jenny, of course she's been affected. One of my family members is too, but more a frustration being stuck in London and not being presented at a NYC festival.
I hope Jenny gets transportation soon!
