Blog Buddies

It is extraordinary, this Brave New World.

I use the word 'Brave' deliberately here.

The blogs I read are mainly personal, though I do have a salt and pepper flavouring thrown in there with some political, climate-change, linguistic, feminist and knitting blogs.

I've developed close friendships with some, to the point where we email privately on more sensitive matters and/or on recovery from addictions.

So whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is up for speculation.

I have ongoing chats with someone who has some serious mental challenges. She's a brilliant artist, writer and extraordinarily brave considering her personal history which has been plagued with murder, death of a child and serious abandonment issues.

And today she emails me she is horrifically depressed and can't see hope and then deletes her blog.

I have no phone number for her, I don't speak the language of her country to alert the police or have any contact info for relatives or acquaintances.

I feel so totally helpless (and useless).

***UPDATE***

My friend has moved back to an old blog after deleting her new so fingers crossed, healing thoughts go her way and she has called a crisis line who must be monitoring the situation.

  3. I am always fascinated at how close we become through blogging. When a blog closes down it is always a worry, yet I try to imagine how I would feel if I shut up shop.

I hope you soon find answers.

  4. What an awful situation to be in, thinking she might be desperate for help but unable to do anything about it. I hope she resurfaces and you can breathe a sigh of relief.

  5. These new webby friendships are so tenuous, one gets close and then realizes what a chasm of physical distance is really there. I do hope your friend is able to pull back from the edge.

  6. How worrying for you. I do hope she will be alright.

Has she tried NPL? Of all the therapies out there, it seems one of the most commonsense and quickest to work?

It is not about digging up old grief and hurt but about where someone is now and where they want to be and bridging that divide.

  7. I'm sorry, WWW. I didn't realize the grief I put you through. I can't apologize enough. I wish I could do something to make it up to you, but nothing seems like it would do. You are a good dear friend and always will be. Many, many big hugs.

  8. Blog friendships are so important and yet so fragile. The lack of face to face contact can mean that we build all sorts of fantasies about those who read or don't read, care or don't care. I almost deleted my blog a couple of weeks ago, then dug myself out of the dark hole long enough to realise that I wasn't just affecting myself, but those around me with whom I had developed strong bonds. So pleased she re-surfaced WWW. And don't you DARE even think of deleting your blog, or I will be in the first plane to Canada my friend. xxx
