Appearances do not Match Opinions

"Oh," sez I to my guests, "You'll have to excuse the weeds all over the lawn, Leo did a really patchy job on mowing."

"Gee," sez I on the morning of the following day, "Leo is going from bad to worse here, I've never seen such a shabby job as on this lawn".

"Good gawd," sez I apologetically that afternoon coming back from a trip, surveying all the wood stacked by the barn,"You'd think Leo would get cracking on all those weeds rather than cutting wood we won't need in the summer."

Today, Leo walks in. My guests are all gone now. I had come home last night to a ready-to-be-lit fire. (It's freezing here.) Thought at the time: Oh here he goes sucking up to me for the sloppy lawn job.

"I didn't like to come in when you had all those people in and out," sez Leo. "You need gas and mix for the mower and the whipper snipper, but I managed to borrow a mower to get some of it done. And by the way I got that old concrete basket ball base out of the dirt on the driveway which you kept hitting with your tires. Took me most of the day while you were away in town but it's gone now. I borrowed a special crowbar for that and kept hammering away. Can we go and get gas and mix tomorrow?"

  1. Sure you had other things on your mind. But I still feel for you!

  2. Bright side: At least you didn't go looking for him to tear off a strip, WWW. He'll not kbe aware of your earlier thoughts and complaints, and you'll remember this if he seems delinquent ever again. :-)

  3. I say a little kissing-up to him is in order for those thoughts of yours WWW. How about finding out his favorite dessert or something he would love that wouldn't take much time, money or effort and tell him your doing it just because he works so hard... a wonderful way to assuage guilt LOL ;D

  4. I'm no stranger to that sort of embarrassing experience. It's all too easy to make assumptions about people when you haven't actually spoken to them! Good to know he's actually very conscientious.

  5. Shame on you, www. So taken up with your own wonderful highly important personage, and your personal success story, you quite misjudged poor (old?) Leo.

I can see how you might, having a successful play on your hands. Congratulations and break a leg!

But be nice to Leo, gardener won't do a thing unless I'm around to work with him. He won't even come in.

I feel awful, those dark thoughts consumed me and I voiced them so frequently to my guests.
    I truly am ashamed.

He is rarely delinquent, he sometimes lies to me but I think it is out of a fear I will think less of him.
I don't know what I'd do without him.

I already put money aside for him for the extras he does around here like digging out that infernal concrete basketball base.
He is a wonderful asset to my life.

My conclusions are nearly always incorrect. I convict without evidence. Or I twist the evidence to match my thoughts.
    *Fail*.
I'm working hard on trying to change this.

See response to Nick. I need to be more mindful. And kindness would help until I have all the facts.
I am so lucky Leo gets busy even when I am not here.
Gardener sounds like one of those marriages :)

  14. ~Hi www,

thank you so much for your comment to my doggy post. It's a lovely poem and describes exactly what I'm trying to say in it. Did you, however, forget a 'not' in the last stanza? Or was that a Freudian slip?

We give Benno a baby aspirin, but in the evening. Perhaps I should give it to him in the morning?

  15. Yep. It's best to wait a tick before starting in with the complaints.

  16. Hi Friko:
I just checked my comment and you are right it is "do NOT make". Oops. Sorry.
Morning would give him the entire day perhaps, rather than night when he is still?
    Just a thought.
Thoughts are with you and the lovely Benno.
