Bad Cess

I haven't posted in a while as I didn't want to jinx the sale of my house. But guess what, it was jinxed anyway so my juju didn't work now, did it.

The closing date was really early, January 31st but hey was I going to look a gift horse in the mouth? No siree Bob.

Anyway the Big Day came yesterday and two glitches, one of which was the well water not passing inspection, which was no surprise to me as the water had been shut off in the house for 3 months and only hooked up upon the offer of purchase so I don't imagine the inspector ran the water for too long. So now that process starts all over again. Another glitch was my former town clerk classifying my house as an "inn" which it wasn't and that caused legal repercussions. I was furious with him as I had gone to great lengths to explain to him how Airbnb operated and I was honest enough to pay municipal taxes on my earnings as an Airbnb host.

So jinxing be damned. Maybe I'll shine the light on this fresh challenge on my blog in hopes of this bad cess being turned around. I feel my life is on hold until all this is resolved and have felt this way for a while. I don't want to join the food vs heat brigade of which there are so many of us impoverished female single seniors. But I have utter sympathy for those, unlike myself, who don't have the luxury of waiting for a real estate sale. And seriously, I've thought of sponsoring a poor woman's heat in some meaningful and secret way if I have any funds at my disposal.

So yeah. Onward.

I'm not as stressed as I thought I might be, though a bit sleepless in St. John's last night.

    1. Oh I am so thrilled you've got another furry darling. Another week I am hoping according to update given by my lawyer a minute ago. Rural Newfoundland RE is remarkably challenging. We don't call it the Wild East for nothing.

  3. There is little more exquisitely torturous than the apple, dangling enticingly, not quite in your reach. It's yours but takes its time to fall into your hands.

It really is rotten luck what you have been through with that property. I have forgotten some of the detail of selling your house; considering that rather inconsiderate "neighbour" of yours spoiling it all, is there any chance you could sell the land for development purposes rather than as a dwelling? Clasping at straws here but sometimes it's best to cut our losses. Though it appears you have already been forced to do just that.

You know something, WWW? If there is one thing disheartening it's about taking an interest in someone's problem only to find myself having little to offer by way comfort.

All the best, and remember: Sometimes you wait'll for a bus for hours (in the rain, naturally) only to find three turning up at the same time. It's life's weird sense of humour.

    1. Thanks U - I'm hoping it will all be behind me soon. Quite an experience I wasn't anticipating at all. The new potential owners seem mad keen on the place. I tend to forget how truly lovely it is, that awful Cathedral aside. So yeah, fingers crossed and 3 busses coming.

  4. Good thoughts from here on the ease of the sale going smoothly this time.
And the health issues as well.
Drink more water. :) 8 -8 oz. glasses per day. Your bladder will adjust in time and all will feel better.
That is just in general, I don't know what your specific symptoms are, but hope they take a hike, so you can. :)

    1. Good advice Gemma, my doc sez the same. I tend to forget the water thing due to running to the bathroom all the time but you're right, the body gets used to it.

  7. House selling is a pain in the backside, the only time I was ever successful at beating the buyer was when I truly didn’t care what else he was going to throw at me, stuck to my guns and told him to bugger off, I wasn’t selling if he behaved like a greedy pig.

I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this nastiness now, maybe that’s another reason I’m just staying put until whenever. . . . . I hope that it truly will be just another week and that everything will be to your satisfaction.

Try to keep calm, letting it get to you too much is bad for balance. And you certainly want to keep that, in more was than one.

    1. I've never had this kind of real estate challenge before Friko, I guess I was spoiled with former houses being snapped up so quickly.

A good lesson in patience and tolerance.

  8. Waiting for any house sale can be stressful, I agree WWW, and you've had an additional stress point added by that monstrous building now adjacent. I hope that the oncoming spring will encourage buyers. More crossed fingers here. :)

  9. This ordeal will pass WWW. The stress is awful, I know, but there's reason for optimism. Thank you for the "bad cess" link - my Co. Meath relatives used it all the time but I never knew it''s origins.
