A storm has been blowing all day, lining the windows with lacy clouds and ridges.
Picture shown to cool down my Australian readers and others upside down from me in the warmer summer climes.
Snow plows chug around all day, clearing as they go. Noisy but necessary. If there's an ice buildup under the snow or on top of it we become immobilized quickly. The manager wears his blizzardy clothes and sets to the pathways with his power snow blower.
Ah winter. I persisted far too long with the scarf shown, I wanted to surprise my grandboy-in-law, I loved the colour combos and the design. But boy after about 16 hours I realized it was a massive mistake and it needs to be ripped out and gauge checked this time. It could just about stand up on its own and walk out the door.
So even experienced knitters make errors, but the thing is we are stubborn and often persist far too long hoping the piece will fix itself (magical thinking).
The scarf looks fine to me. We are having a cool week here in South Australia, even had a few spits of rain this morning.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does look pretty and handsome but it is so stiff it could walk out any minute.

Thanks for the frosty window photos!
ReplyDeleteSydney today is ridiculously muggy and though the temps aren't super high, it's not a great combination with the wet air. I think we're on the edge of a cyclone so things might settle in a few days.
I was glad to read about your relationship with the ravens, clever birds. I haven't ever been able to be friends with a raven but we have a jaunty little magpie who wanders our front yard. We call it Brian
Kylie I just love the name for your magpie. In Ontario where I used to live the summers were unbearably muggy.

Thank you so much for those frosty photos. It is hotter and stickier here than I like it (and my body is reacting badly).
ReplyDeleteNot being a knitter your scarf looks good to me. I bow to your greater experience and knowledge.
Trust me on the scarf, EC. Appearances are deceptive.
DeleteHot and sticky does my head in.

I am very satisfyingly cooled down. Thank you. The weather is humid, warm and stormy.
ReplyDeleteI won't pretend to have any knowledge of scarves beyond thinking that I could nonchalantly throw one around my neck with just a little practice.
You might need a car with the top down Andrew. But always remember Isadora Duncan and her scarf.

My granddaughter ( 8 ) recently asked me to teach her to knit.
ReplyDeleteShe had the wool and I found a pair of chopsticks in my drawer that did the job.
It was sooo relaxing to knit after all these years. x
How lovely Anne, what precious moments you are creating. My grandgirl at that age never wanted to knit but oh boy how she loved to cuddle up to me when I did!

That snow looks cold and bitter. It is pretty when it is falling but when it is on the ground, it can be dangerous. That knitting looks nice, so sorry you are ripping it apart. Take care and Happy new year!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling better Gigi after your arm betrayed you.

I would love a good snow storm! I hate that when you spot a mistake and try to convince yourself that no one will notice, but then you can't stand it and rip it out.
ReplyDeleteExactly Jackie, I persisted far too long with the stiff and unyielding handsomeness of it all.

I am envious. We have windy and ... rain! sometimes sleet. Not nice winter weather at all. The scarf looks wonderful, but views can be deceiving. It sounds like a good decision to start over - still the colours look good!
ReplyDeleteI'll stick with the colours for the new edition Charlotte, watch this space!

That is beautiful. I tried and failed at knitting...
