Coming our Way?

Puppini Sisters

It seems to me like the UK has always set the tone in popular music.

A great retro movement has started over there with the sounds of the Andrews Sisters channelled through these sisters filling the airwaves.

Great voices and harmonies.

  1. Yes, very retro. Hadn't heard of them at all. The clothes are a pretty weird throwback as well. Totally asexual and mumsy. As long as we don't get the retro politics to go with it.

It seems like this kind of throwback happens every 30 years or so (remember the 70s and the Boogy Woogy Bugle Boy?). Like porridge and toast, oddly comforting.

I'm with you, tho some of the rap is highly political and topical (and dare I say it, quite intelligent). 90% is poundingly awful and atonal.

  4. I hadn't heard of these gals, thanks for the alert, WWW.

From the clips they seem to be a wee bit jazzier than the originals, or as much as I remember of the Andrews.
Maybe they edge towards Manhattan Transfer too? Like it!

  5. Yes T: A unique sound of their own.
Their concert calendar looks pretty full - maybe the world is ready!

  6. This group is great!!

I just watched this delightful 1965 'retro' video (Liza Minelli, Paul Anka and Dionne Warwick).

And, a few weeks ago I came across this 1962 'retro' video. Familiar stuff eh?

I love seeing new musicians make new stuff out of old sounds. Many styles of house music are about this :)

Retro is the new hot, by the sounds of it.
OR everything old is new again.
I'm waiting for these dresses to become fashionable. My mother used to wear them!(And the shoes and the 'do)
