Like a shrunken head. Mine.
Now that I am free from all "outside" activities I enjoyed my first day of mobility and breathing yesterday. I proceeded to reorganize my office, which some of you may recall is a part of my bedroom. I moved a very high wooden yarn shelf in from my locker room and began sorting all my writing binders - oh those novels, oh those short stories, oh those plays! - into some semblance of order. it also serves as a kind of room divider. I think I will throw a spider plant on the top shelf. I have quite a bit to go yet but I am so very pleased with how this is all coming together. I'm one for keeping note scraps on story ideas and scenarios, I'd love to have a system for these. Any ideas? They would need sorting into headings or some such, not sure. Some are barely legible but meaningful to me.
After enduring abuse from an anonymous commenter on this blog, I will no longer allow such creepy trolls with their own sick agendas to comment. They will be deleted unread. I recommend if you suffer similarly.
I believe I needed this health wake-up call to pay attention to my own inner creative spirit. I see my doctor tomorrow for followup.
My 80yo cleaning woman couldn't make it as scheduled today as she was worn out from cleaning another client yesterday. I told her to take time off any time she needs. She can't survive on her tiny pension and OAS. It is heart-breaking. Our MHA shows up today to party with the residents. He's the one who read our petition in the HoA. He's going to present a copy of the petition to my SOS founding partner. She's game ball. I'm not. I might want to physically assault him and scream "We want action, not words!" She's far more intimidated than I am but we make a good team. I do the yelling and plotting. So to avoid prison I stay away from him right now. And strategise some more.
I love this picture of a place very dear to me taken in 2014.
That is a glorious photo. A tempting path, so very tempting.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the need to stay away from some people, and the burning need for actions rather than words. Thoughts and prayers are all very well but I want action on rather a lot of fronts.
Me too EC, they all offer words but so many I know are not eating properly and worried about power bills. And moving to the West Coast to stay warm in their cars.

Photos are dear to us. Evoking many memories with them.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing...makes me wonder what is up ahead in the clearer area around the corner, at least it is downhill, so it won't be hard to find out. :)
There are abandoned building all over the area here, the Catholic church has the old nun houses near the churches and schools that are also abandoned. Why won't the church of all places use some of their buildings(they are tax exempt, does that include property taxes?) here.
They would make wonderful apartment communities where the elderly could help take care of each other.
Together could the elderly be more able to afford the place to live , healthcare could be brought to them and meals made there. Have a small community inside a building that is similar to a town. Are there buildings like that where you are? She has no family your cleaning lady? Families used to live generations in one house, all helping each other.
Sorry, just thinking aloud.
How about a sign , then you don't have to scream and all will see your point!
DeleteGP: they ignore the signs, seriously, we even go to the trouble of pointing them out and they don't read them. And the signs are huge. My partner got a small drip of hope as they are thinking of giving us vision care now, a drop in the bucket only. Also maybe sometime possibly a drop in the percentage we have to pay in rent to include utilities.
DeleteJoanna's ex-husband, who would beat the living tar out of her, estranged her children from her. A horrible story but hers so I won't get into it.
They are many disused buildings and churches here but if the RC church is anything like in your area they don't spend a dime on the homeless or the disadvantaged elderly. Everything goes to the gilded coffers in the Vatican. And nothing paid to the abused either.
Two huge buildings near me here could be converted easily (I think) but again, they are rotting in place.

Yes, if you aren't able to add to their coffers they have no use for you. I am so fed up with the churches acting so holier than thou. Am sorry for Joanna, hoped she had someone to help her. Glad she has you to confide in.
DeleteI am proud of you that you got someone's attention who would actually look at the needs and are trying to help. Good goin'.
Yes, at least our demands are now part of the parliamentary records, GP. We try not to dilute our message and demand uses for these neglected buildings.
DeleteWe are truly focused on just individual senior poverty and how it can be alleviated. We want them to see individuals and not the starving masses. It's the only thing that works and the only thing the media wants to cover. I learned a lot from those media who featured us.

You have done great and I didn't mean for you to take on the church or buildings. I was just wondering out loud , why can't the church help.
DeleteI am super psyched by what you have accomplished. Maybe the church building will be another's thing.Maybe mine even.
Get writing all those stories ... Not sorting - writing!
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right, Uglemor and they are all written just need a bit of editing.
DeleteTime is so precious and I am looking forward to buckets of it.

One day of feeling better doesn't mean you should do too much. I love the green tunnel.
ReplyDeleteI know, old habits die hard Andrew. This was a place of many happy childhood memories so very precious to me.

Love the photo and the feeling it evokes. Love the old you gearing up. Your medical team is not the one to let down, so listen to them first.
ReplyDeletethey are amazing Joanne and I am so overjoyed today that everything is back under control again. It was such a wakeup call to the rest of my life :)

ah, the very pretty road to...?
ReplyDeleteI have copies of all or most, of the stories I write for the Words for Wednesday Challenge, kept in case something else I write can be added to an original piece to make a longer story. Maybe even a book someday.
I love you W4W stories River and had the same thought, they should be expanded. The road is on an island in West Cork, I've always loved it, it seemed to have fairies and happy ghosts in it when I was a child.

Assaulting and screaming are not a good look, but I know the feeling when someone seems willfully obtuse and impervious to argument or common-sense requests.
ReplyDeleteI do have to avoid smug politicians for my own safety Nick as we know they will never suffer to the sins they commit.

I was glad to read that your diagnosis is for something that can be treated and that you are taking care of yourself. Always a reader here (in my reader) but don't often enough stop over to leave a comment. Your various interests are a wonder. As for organizing bits of things, I sometimes use clear plastic sleeves in a three -ring binder to I can easily see things laid out. It also allows me to see both sides if needed. I love organizing so that would be a pleasant task for me.
ReplyDeleteThat's a brilliant though Sharon I could even index them. Some startle me, they are years old but hold up in the goodness of time. I'm constantly jotting - as I'm sure you are.

That's how I have my stories, in binders, in clear sleeves, so when I'm reading through for clues as to expanding, they don't get messed up.
DeleteI am delighted that your mobility and breathing has improved and that you were able to reorganise your flat into a more efficient one. Just be careful that you don't strain yourself too much as the diuretics can have side effects if one exerts oneself.
ReplyDeleteYes, he did warn me about those Ramana and so far so good, just the odd bit of lightheadedness but manageable.

ReplyDeleteYes I decided to only do what brings me joy and it's a policy my doc follows so we are in agreement. Re the drug you are on - I'm already on this (different generic name) along with some more for the BP. Thanks!

When I'm not thinking, "Who am I to believe I have something to contribute to the human story?" I am so glad I've given myself time to work on editing a novel. I hope your change in activity levels provides you with that time, too. I don't doubt that you have something to contribute.
ReplyDeleteExactly Linda, I just want to edit now and maybe write a bit but I have loads of material that needs polishing. Good luck to you too in your editing. Maybe we could exchange work for evaluation if you like when stuff is ready for other eyes?

I'm so pleased to know that you are feeling better, WWW - please don't do too much too soon though!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to think of a system for your notes and scraps of info. My old fashioned head can come up with nothing more than a card index (I always loved keeping a card index) with your scraps of notes clipped to more substantial cards in sections relating to their content (novels, characters, plays and suchlike.) Very undigital and non-tech of me!
Treat unpleasant Anons by ignoring and deleting 'em WWW. they are not worth your time and energy. I don't mind pleasant Anons one bit though, as sometimes people who would like to comment can't get around to the effort of making up screen names - and remembering them.
True that - thanks for your suggestions T, I use index cards for talks, they are fantastic as they are so small and don't look like one is reading, I just like the odd prompt :) But great suggestion on multiple uses.
DeleteI am sometimes so confounded by why anons take the time to pour their vitriol on to a blog rather than see a good therapist.

Enjoying your creativity may add years to your life! I have spent some time this year getting rid of things that I found to be a chore - like secretary on a Wildlife Refuge Board. I am the worst secretary, ended up making up half the minutes because I was talking or only listening to what I was interested in! Did it because they needed someone. And web work for same outfit. Decided I just have so many years left and you know the rest.
ReplyDeleteSo very true Mary, I think much of my own involvement was to give myself some relevance even though, like you say, a lot of it was a chore. And with only so much energy it depleted the rest of my life the joyful bits of writing and editing my own work. I found also that editing others (for compensation) was also a joy. I love words and how we can maneuver them.
