The Waiting Game

I had all the tests done today. Boy did it take a whack out of me. I was so fortunate my niece was with me and did the wheelchair thing and waited and amused and conversed. I went to a smaller hospital, St. Clare's as I find them more intimate and friendly compared to the massive Health Science Centre which is exhausting even in getting parking before you begin the trek of endless halls and poor signage.

So it was efficient with all the tests and the wheelchair really helped as my breathing after even a few steps is, well, rotten. EKGs are amazing now, none of that cold gel I remember but all these plasters, very fast and efficient and with a sports bra (ha! irony) one doesn't have to strip anymore for the lung Xrays.

Niece and I rewarded ourselves with a large farmer's type breakfast afterwards. We inhaled it.

SOS had a reading of our petition in the House of Assembly here in St. John's this afternoon. I hated missing it but I can only manage 1 or 2 events in a day and the hospital tests had wiped the floor with me.

I'm so relieved to be home. Several people I met today were being admitted in various stages of distress and anxiety. I thought I might be amongst them and had felt so very sad leaving my apartment this morning.

I am so grateful to be home and just waiting for results and I am pretty positive in my outlook.

Thanks for all your support dear readers. It means more than I can say.

    1. Thanks GP, Even after a nap I've nodding off in my chair all evening. Tests are stressful, I never realized how much.

    1. Yes, invasive and uncomfortable mentally but honestly every single technician today was an absolute gem.

  3. One of the few benefits of going to the hospital -- you always see people worse off than you, and so instead of feeling sorry for yourself you begin to count your blessings. Anyway ... hope that you feel better and the test come out good.

    1. So true Tom and I saw a couple with the death pall on them. I am sensitive to that for some reason. More reasons to be grateful.

  5. Just going to a smaller facility was the first good bit. Hooray for your niece. I'm off for all my tests on my own; company would be great. But, I'm still on my feet, at least down a corridor and around the corner. Best wishes to you. Listen carefully, or have your niece use the recorder app on her phone when you start listening to results.

    1. I'd always done this stuff alone too Joanne so this was a big deal for me. Daughter and Niece consulted on it behind my back as they were stressed at the idea of my tackling this whole biz on my feet with no breath.
And looking back I was only too delighted to attend to others going to the hospital.
Good idea on the recorder, thank you.

  6. St Clare's almost looks too pretty to be a hospital. The Health Science Center looks like a giant sprawling pile of cardboard boxes. I'd get lost in there in no time and I don't get lost easily. Fingers crossed for good results.

    1. Exactly River there's no comparison between them really. The sprawl of the HSC is intimidating and poorly planned IMO. I love the intimacy of St. Clare's.

      Toes crossed too!

  7. Testing (and waiting for the results) is downright exhausting. I am so very glad that every one you dealt with today was a gem, and even gladder that your niece was with you.
    Everything is crossed for you.

  8. So good of your niece to take you to and from the hospital. And that breakfast hit the spot. Hope you find out what is truly ailing you and heal quickly.

  9. Me too, Gigi, the waiting game is not good for the blood pressure though I'm trying to relax and be mindful of my gratitude list.

  10. I dread the waiting for results from medical tests far more than any treatment or procedures which might follow. I do hope your waiting time is over quickly, WWW, and that your mind will be put at rest. My BP zooms at such times, too. I find deep breathing helps a bit (in through nose to count of 6, hold it for 6 more, then out through mouth, with a good blow that you can hear, for count of 6 more.
