Catch up.

Having a wonderful time with friends from Ontario who are staying in St. John's for a few days.

We were out at Cape Spear yesterday - the furthest easterly point in North America - and they took the shot below among many others. They are entranced on this, their first trip to the Edge of the Atlantic, and are already planning another one!

A whale bounced up to greet them. And they were in awe.

The weather is magnificent but the big but is Dorian heading our way with some high winds. Nothing like the Bahamas and - ahem - Alabama, but still slightly worrisome.

In other news:

I see the people of Ireland held a magnificent parade for Mike Pence's visit to his great-grandmother's home.

  1. I would be in awe at seeing a whale too. Whale watching is something on my 'bucket list'. I hope Dorian is tired by the time he reaches you. Smiling at the parade...
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. Good we can continue to enjoy ourselves, have a good time, else the news would grind us to pulp. Remember, we are the electorate!

    1. I feel ground to pulp a lot Joanne, we are not free of this evil in the Great White North either, our upcoming election is a nailbiter. Ontario has already installed Trump-lite as provincial premier and he is causing havoc in classrooms and hospitals.

  4. Wish I was still in Ireland and I could have joined the parade. You may have bad wind, but I am sure it is not something you haven't experienced before. Good to know you have been encircled by the black marker pen too.

  7. Glad to read that many Icelanders and Iceland businesses displayed rainbow flags when Mike Pence visited, and the President wore a rainbow bracelet.

    1. Yes me too. And it must have killed old Mike to sit with the gay Irish prime minister. I am sure he showered and prayed afterwards.

  9. Does all NFLD look like this? Hauntingly beautiful. Reminds me of somewhere else.. . So, I looked it up, and yes, this is Pre-Cambrian Shield. I grew up on Pre-Cambrian Shield, thousands of miles and many bodies of water away from these rocks of yours. I now understand why Newfoundlanders miss it so when they must go away for work. Those of us born on these rocks embody their spirit. We are one.

    1. How lovely your words. I too was close to the rocks on the other side of the Atlantic. When I found these on the other side, I was finally at home. A profound feeling I have never forgotten. You understand.
