I'm booked for my first jab on Wednesday, the 30th. Daughter is a volunteer firefighter so she had hers yesterday and only suffering a bit of soreness and extreme tiredness.

I am find it difficult to focus lately, apart from reading engaging books. I'm enjoying Tana French's latest which is holding my attention even though her use of the word "cookie" all over the place is a little annoying. In Ireland, cookies are "biscuits" and biscuits are "scones". But trivial, right? It shows how petty minded I can be.

I'm using this as a meditation point as I can't seem to get ripping on a knitting piece that didn't work out and needs to be redesigned. It's a belated wedding gift for a niece. Really belated now. And I'm foostering and dawdling and sighing and hand wringing but nothing is being generated.

I love these beautiful shapes and the subtle colours. And each piece has a little memory inside it of places I've been and who I was with.

My energy is pathetic. This week I'll be 5 weeks on the iron and doc had said between 4 and 8 weeks for any effects to be felt.

I'm still working on my new card. The prose/poem is evading me.

Writers' and knitters' blocks All at once.

I can hardly wait for each of them to lift.

  1. Always looking for the next book and my sister recommended the latest Tana French this morning so I managed to get it from the library (Kindle download). Glad to see you mentioned it. And yes the cookie thing may annoy me also. Good luck with the shot. Lots of different reactions but the feeling when it's all over is wonderful.

    1. Yes, many people weep Mary - Daughter did. Relief. Signs of this old dark cloud lifting off each and every one of us.

    1. It's a word I don't even like Andrew - I had to learn an entirely new language when I emigrated to Canada. It always sounds like baby talk to me. :)

  3. We like British murder mysteries and for the longest time thought it strange that visitors were offered a biscuit with their tea. Who'd have a biscuit fresh from the oven when someone drops in?
And I still have questions about giving people their "tea." Is it what we here in rural Saskatchewan call supper? Or is it a midafternoon meal? -Kate

    1. With a biscuit, tea is just a cup of tea and a sit down.

    2. High tea is basically dinner. Usually with a "fry".Tea is usually served with a biscuit. Afternoon tea is another thing- wonderful pastries and sandwiches and cakes.

  4. My library card expired and I had to go find it to enter the bar code numbers to have it renewed. Fortunately I saw it just a few days ago, rummaging for my Erin Go Bragh pin, which I didn't find, worse luck. But at least I can download books not.

  5. I'm sorry your energy is pathetic, you seemed so 'up' in your last post. At least you have a good book to see you through a few hours each day. Downtime often helps as the subconscious brings forth new ideas for the knitting and other stuffs.

    1. Far too much downtime River. I wish I had more pep to my step but I seem to be getting worse each day. Fingers crossed this changes.

  6. Good to see you at least have the ambition to knit and write.
I love that word "foostering!" No need to say anything. The fact that we use that word identifies right away where we grew up! I hope the iron kicks in soon so you'll have your energy back.

  8. Jenny and I have somehow got in the habit of calling biscuits cookies. We'll be eating grits next.

I hope the iron starts to have some effect on your depleted energy levels.

  9. Congratulations on getting your vaccine dose. Only yesterday did my province announce the rough schedule of vaccination, until then I had no idea of time frame. I hope the iron kicks in soon, the wait must be frustrating.

  10. As you had pointed out in your comments on my blog post, we share the same date for our first jab. I am looking forward to it as from the first of April, India will open up its vaccination programme for all over the age of 45 and I dread the crowds that will throng to get it over with.

  14. So glad you're getting started with the Covid vaccines. The only reaction I had was a somewhat sore arm and then after the second one was extremel tired for 2-3 days. At first thought I was ill but then decided it was the shot. Such a relief to have at least some protection.
You mentioned Ansa before. I copied some of the pictures of her and still have them in my computer. It's always a treat to run across them. She was a beautiful dog and a wonderful friend for you I know. My beautiful Maine Coon cat (now gone for 2 years) was the same. I miss him still.
    Take care.

    1. Oh I am so touched by that Marge. There's not a day I don't miss her and any picture of a dog like her has me in tears. She was definitely a wonder dog with a huge and loving personality. And brains to burn.

Maine Coons are my very favourite cat. Sorry for your loss too. They are irreplaceable.

  16. I also hate the substitution of "cookies" for "biscuits" and I'll be petty about it.
I hope you are feeling better now than you were when you wrote this post!

  17. It's striking how different the vaccine rollout is in different countries. My mother got her first vaccine a couple of months ago.
