Bits and pieces as I manage, or try to, the sporadia of my life.
Tax season, though much, much reduced from days gone by in its volume, is upon me. But so far managed well. There now I've jinxed it.
I have my season of writing workshops starting on Saturday for which I am completely unprepared.
I semi-reluctantly signed up (under pressure from the board et al) for the Tenants' Committee here and now find I had the most votes even though I don't get involved, AT ALL, in the frenzy of activities here such as Bingo Night, Soup Day, Darts Night and Koffee Klatch Wednesdays and Garden Beds (which are glorious as we have magnificent gardens). So now what do I do?
A few pics.
I really like this photo of my bathroom mirror capturing some of the art on my bathroom wall.
Loved my latest read, the pacing, the tension and the complex characters.
I can't praise this series enough. Most of it I lived through but the fresh perspective on everything (Bay of Pigs being one example) is enlightening. I highly recommend.
I'm amazed at people having art, wooden furniture and even carpets in their bathrooms. Maybe it's just collateral damage from always living in a big family ... ;)
ReplyDeleteI had the same remarks on FB when I posted it there Charlotte - "art in your bathroom!!??" And that's only one wall, lol. I should mention the bathroom is huge. Biggest one I've ever lived in. If I had a cat I could swing it.

Love your mirrored art work.
ReplyDeleteRe the Tenant's Committee it sounds as if you need to just keep on being yourself.
Good luck with tax season - and the workshops.
Thanks EC, I'll need all the cheering I can get. And I can always quit if things get to be too much.

I like the idea of bathroom artwork. Or pretty much anything to anyone does to make a bathroom less sterile
ReplyDeleteI have a couple from an artist I collected, some wee pics from Grandgirl and some Kahlo prints I got in her house in Mexico City. All treasures.

I like the mirror image and the bathroom art. Congratulations on being recognised for your work with the Tenant's Committee.
ReplyDeleteThanks River, what made it a huge surprise was the fact I'm basically an unknown quantity, pleasant but distant.

So if there is there is a close vote at a Tenants' Committee meeting, you could be called on to vote with your multiple...we would call the proxy votes. You could be called to vote on the type of soup served on Soup Day.
ReplyDeleteActually Andrew, the Tenants' Committee is breathing finer air, the social committee is under its umbrella and handles the messy doings of dinners and music hiring along with the soup.....

I hope Saturday's workshop goes okay, and you've managed to do enough preparation. I like the idea of art works in the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteGives me something to look at while doing the needful. I highly recommend.

I identified with one of your self-descriptions years ago - Gregarious Loner.
ReplyDeleteNow, Pleasant but Distant - yep, me too!
Recently ( through unusual circumstances ) I spent a fortnight at home, seeing hardly anyone. Over both weekends I saw nobody.
I was slightly shocked to find I enjoyed it.
I'll be interested to see how the book treats The Bay of Pigs "disaster".
When we visited Cuba in 2009 or so I sat in the car overlooking the B of P and read the history of the invasion by cuban expats and how they were successfully rebutted; how the prisoners taken were exchanged for medical supplies for the embargoed island. Somewhere in the middle is the truth. x
YS, it's actually a brilliant series on Netflix. I watched it over a period of a week. It also blows open the common perception about the Berlin Wall - the fall was never meant to happen. It was a mistake.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you watch it. It threads all events into what is happening on our planet today with all the chain rattling and particularly the personality of Putin and his real ambitions.

I’ll look out for that Mary; I don’t have Netflix but these series soon pop up on terrestrial TV . X
DeleteI need to check out that series. I like the art on the bathroom wall...we too have art in the bathroom because why not?
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best with the writing workshops. Wish I could be there for them! I need something to get me started again.
I'm taking a vote on Saturday GS to see if we can perhaps Zoom. Last series of workshops the vote was a definite no. Will let you know.

Bits and pieces from you are every bit as satisfying as any lengthy diatribe I can think of. -Kate
ReplyDeleteThere is art in my bathroom, as well as a framed photo of our grandchildren. I like things to be where I may happen to take the time, while drying my hands or brushing my teeth, to notice them instead of blending into the background like they do on my livingroom walls.
ReplyDeleteI love the mirrors. I hope you are doing okay.
