Happy Tibbs Eve from the Rock.
Tibb's Eve is a Newfoundland tradition on December 23rd that marks the unofficial start of Christmas. It's a day for pre-Christmas fun, and is also known as Tip's Eve or Tipsy Eve:
Tibb's Eve is a time to decorate, sing, bake, and have a few drinks with friends. Some people attend music shows, while others have family potlucks
Tibb's Eve customs vary by community and family, but some traditions include decorating the tree, singing and dancing, and making handmade Christmas cookies. Tibb's Eve is popularly interpreted to mean the day one can get "tipsy" and start drinking Christmas cheer. Bars have embraced Tibb's Eve and compete to attract customers. Many Newfoundlanders return to their home communities for Christmas, and Tibb's Eve is a time to reconnect with friends before Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.Tibb's Eve is a sacred tradition in Newfoundland, and is only known in Newfoundland.
It's that Irish influence, any reason to have a drink, and they will. It sounds like fun.

Tibb's Eve! I am heartily in favor of it! Maybe we can import it to our little state? Can't put a tariff on that! Wishing you a year of good health and peace, dear Webwoman.
ReplyDeleteYou too GS and let's hope all the terrifying predictions don't come to pass.

Happy belated Tibb's eve to you. In Denmark the 23rd is often celebrated with company and eating of rice pudding/rice porridge and a bit of drinking as well. IT is called "lillejuleaften" meaning little Christmas eve.
ReplyDeleteI have learned something new! Never heard of this celebration; lovely, for a lovely place. But, big question is: are you excited about becoming the 51st state? The idiots (and racists and grifters and uninformed) will soon be running the White House. It is already exhausting, and Trump has even taken office yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
