When?

"In many shamanic societies, if you came to a medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions:... "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop being comforted by the sweet territory of silence?"
Gabrielle Roth

Dance.
Sing.
Tell Stories.
Embrace the sound of silence.

And PS I've had to reinstigate comment moderation. The spam is through the roof.

  1. Amen. And of course, now I have the Simon and Garfunkel song "Sound of Silence" going in my head. But that's okay, I'll just ding it. Maybe dance a little, too. :-)

  2. Incidentally, if you have comment moderation, you don't need word verification (which drives some real commenters away). It's an either/or set of filters. Do you mark all the spam comments you get as spam or just delete them? I consistently go to dashboard and mark them as spam so my blog can learn - spam comments have dropped way, way down for me.

Good thing to have comment moderation on.I had to use it starting awhile ago.A rotten world it seems at times.

Me too, though I notice my voice has really really deteriorated in the past while. Maybe I need singing lessons?

I know, I can't believe the volume I'm getting which are slipping under the net and onto the blog.

Bottom feeders and I suppose some are encouraging them.

  8. I needed your words and the reminder.
    Dance and Sing
    always I have loved
and not much lately except when my little girls are visiting.

Lots of silence in this cottage
and tell a lot of stories to my youngest granddaughters.

  9. That's a very good recipe for keeping your spirits up. I find music especially uplifting when I'm feeling a bit gloomy. And the thing about prolonged silence is that it triggers the imagination and then all sorts of interesting things emerge.

I must try Agent's tip about marking unwanted comments as spam so Blogger dumps them.

I need reminders too, I can do things for a few weeks and then get distracted.
the happiest people I know are those who dance and sing every day. Even though flying solo. Very, very rare.

  12. One spring we performed Brahm's Requiem.

As we sang the last note, the music continued in the silence.

Those notes were as beautiful as the music which had gone before.
