Rewind 2015, please.

Yeah, that would be good, thanks.

Maybe it's my turn or something and life will just be all peachy-keen-lovey-doves once this year is over. BUT. There has to be too much, right?

Yesterday: well yesterday started out with a power outage. Remember no wood stove here as, post bad chimney fire, I am still awaiting parts for the chimney and for the weather to smarten up so the guys can access my roof.

So there ya go.

And compared with other shyte that's gone down for me this year, overall maybe these are small things.

But yesterday, no sooner had I scooted over to my friends for coffee and breakfast and assured I have a room (see yesterday) all made up - they have a generator, you see - the power came back on after a 4-1/2 hour unplanned outage across the island.

And I pick up the mail, which I hadn't for a while, and lo and behold 2 rejection slips. I'm getting used to them, I am no longer traumatized.

And then, and then, terrible rain storm last night and I hear this - no mistaking the sound - heavy splatter of water in the corner of my house, like inside the house in a downstairs closet, and sure enough, big leak, where I don't know: could be roof, could be loose siding, could be anything. Analytical minds don't help in situations like this, do they. But buckets do. And all the towels on the shelves, moving stuff out of the downstairs closet, more towels. Buckets. Upstairs, moving book shelves. Not panicking. Coping.

And so it goes......

If you're having a bad day just read my entries over the last couple of months.

You'll feel loads better.

Guaranteed.

  1. Leaks are no fun. We had a persistent leak in our bedroom right over the bed. Several attempts to fix the roof but the leak kept returning. Eventually we had the chimney taken down because we reckoned the leak was somewhere in or around the chimney. That finally stopped it, but what a frigging saga.

I hope your leak is a bit easier to fix....

  2. Some of my siding was replaced this past summer Nick, could be that. Daughter said wind coming from unusual angle last night with the rain (from northwest) so that revealed the problem. Will have to wait for better weather before guys get on board, our spring is far, far later than you so this may take a while and I hope the winds hang out elsewhere or a while!

  4. Are you any good at swearing loudly and prolonged?
You are not having a lot of luck this year so far, do you?
I don’t know what to suggest except take up a friend’s offer and relocate until all is back to normal?

Get a man in, is what I’d say.

  5. I am sorry to read of this latest development. My daughter had a leak in the kitchen of her new house, due to snow backed up on the roof and an weak spot around the skylight. She will need some repairs in the spring. Roofs - what a pain! Spring is coming so let's hope for a shift in the energy:)

  8. Sharon I think I got the leak sorted. Apparently it's something complicated called an "icedam" and has no lasting effect and there should be no more leaks. We'll see.
I talk to the local experts.

  9. Well we have fire ants! They are little tiny things, almost impossible to get rid of and bite so hard they leave bruises. And the bites itch like fury!
    Always something, eh?

  15. I’m sorry to hear that 2015 hasn’t been working out for you. I hope it has started to pick up over the past few months. As for the leak, have you found where it has been coming from? At the very least, you can scratch that off your list, so it can be one less thing to worry about this 2015. Good luck!

  16. This is terrible news but you acted quickly to minimize the damage, so we can find one positive in the situation. Be sure to talk with your roofer when he comes and find out if your leak can just be patched. Get them there quickly, however, before the water sits long enough to cause more damage. Good luck!
