Health Update

Photo taken yesterday - double click for maximum effect

Thanks for all the emails and comments on my The Call post.

Following many months of inactivity due to my accident which left me for far too long partially incapacitated followed by a dismal reaction to blood pressure medication, I am left with a body that is not performing very well at the moment.

Funny how we take our good health for granted until we are stopped in our tracks and left to evaluate, (quietly and silently in my case) as to what is going on.

Results of tests: Type 2 diabetes. Some kidney distress (excessive protein), poor blood results (too much of the 'bad' cholesterol) and the usual age-related challenges.

I haven't ingested refined sugar in over 3 years. Up to December I was capable of a 16k road-race, well a trek, not a "race" as we know a race. Then my body and mind crumbled and stumbled into 2015. I had a massive amount of stress too which didn't help, I still do. I've been meditating and doing some breathing exercises and practicing love and forgiveness. And yes, it's working.

So, bringing the blood sugar down to below 10 is the immediate goal. Followed by building up, slowly, my former physical condition - not superb but efficient.

And compared with many, this is all a walk in the park, right?

And I am so aware of this.

  1. I hope the stress eases -- and you are able to build up your strength again.

  2. Thank you Joe, the stress is the worst, I must say, it takes a huge toll on the body.

  4. I'm relieved it's not something life-threatening that cannot be avoided. At least this you can work with. And it sounds like you have started in the right way, with meditating et al. Meanwhile make it your purpose, if you haven't already, to enjoy yourself every day. That is more healing than anything, I suspect, and probably the most wise. (A conclusion I came to last night about my own life.)

  5. I hope you get back to your previous state of health. Diabetes should be quite manageable once you get used to adjusting your diet.

At least you don't have prostate problems, which is what I'm having to contend with right now.

  6. Well phooey, this does not bode well. Hope you can adjust sugar spike with diet and exercise. The protein dumping sounds serious. My internist had that symptom which meant something very seriously wrong. Hope you can get yours all figured out and get on the road to better health.

Exact;ly. Just got back from the shore where I sat and did my meditation and on the way back ran into an old friend who asked for help with HIS stress levels. My how mindfulness works as I was able to pass on my technique. He was so very happy. I could see the load lifting from him.

"Enjoy myself each day." How we forget that simple premise. There is so much. Even my dog struggling as she walked tonight, trusting me to find the least stony route through the beach. It melts my heart.

I'm so sorry, I thought you were sorted on the medical front. Yes, I don't have prostrate problems and would be terribly alarmed if I did. Bad joke,
I do hope you get it all resolved and soon with no drastic procedures involved.

Yes, the protein dumping was the biggest concern for both the doc and I. Symptomatic of organ failure or extremely distressed organs. I am working with it both mentally and physically.
    Thank you!

  12. BP meds are a minefield and I have the scars (literally) to prove it. Having the book thrown at you in one fell swoop, is enough to raise the BP further! Take care my friend. Put yourself first for awhile and think local, forget the world's problems. Your body needs your thought and energy right now.
    Healing hugs.

  13. Yes, GM, battered and bruised for sure. But you and I are survivors par excellence. Bring it on, right?
Like you say, I need all my energy for myself at the moment, even calls looking for help (always the same people) I have to ignore, further stress is my enemy. Mindfulness has to be my practice.
Thanks for the hugs. I feel them :)

  14. Take care and focus on yourself if you can.
We used to have a road near my old house called the A405 which was renamed the A414 . But it is still always referred to as the "Was A405"
So it is with my online name! By getting a Google account in order that I could chat to Ernestine on MyJourneyToMindfullness my actual name was ( quite happily ) revealed.
Should I now be called WasEnna?
Was Enna, now Anne I think!
New name, same old person! Xx

  16. I am so sorry you have experienced this dramatic change in your health. It is all so demoralizing to have to face these things. Before my recent knee replacement i went through health threats similar to yours and they have now all reversed but all the tests, worry, etc were so hard to endure. May these things quickly resolve for you!!

I was at the health food store today and an informal health exchange took place which I found most interesting. A guy there had reversed a lot of his health challenges by moving to holistic health practices. I've started. Big Pharma is not the solution.

  19. Thank you for updating us. You're entitled to whatever reaction you have, whether that's fear, a shrug, a freaking hissy fit, or acceptance. It stinks that you're dealing with this. You're a smart woman, and I trust that you'll figure out what works best for you. If you can't figure it out, don't worry. Multitudes of mere acquaintances are going to start offering you their sure-fire miracle cures. Carry a notebook with you wherever you go. Some are going to insist you write down their miracle cures.

This old cynic has no time for "miracle cures" or prayers or intercessions or turning around six times with the magic wand, I know I have some hard work ahead of me to keep this under control.
No I'm not mad or fearful, maybe I should be, this old body has served me very well considering my ill-treatment of it for a long time.

  21. Thank you for the update. None of this is good news, but it can be managed and you've already started. Your intuition, common sense, and sense of humor will help you through as you find your new normal health-wise. Let us know how it goes - I'm taking notes on being healthier, too.
