When Life Gets Busy....

As life is wont to do now and again.

I go to my local beach.

Today I brought lunch and knitting.

Morning was busy and so was afternoon.

Nice busy vs stressful urgent busy I should add.

I met many dogs there today.

I had a long chat with one who looked like Ansa and paddled and obeyed commands just like her too.

Her name was Fermie. And she took a moment to rest herself on my feet for a while which took her human companion and myself by surprise. Ansa would do that. Fermie was a rescue from Labrador. I sensed that she knew of my loss.

I took this rather lovely photo of the view in front of me and my knitting. I call this #40shadesofblue.

I find the ocean marvellously healing. The surf was high and the herring were in. And for once I didn't cry over Ansa which is a gift. Thank you Fermie.

I hear on the grapevine that the board of this building are reconsidering the no pet policy all thanks to the submission I and my fellow advocates made. If so, I'll be first out the door to the humane society.

PS for those who care, I updated my 2019 book list but need to update Goodreads too when I get a minute.

  1. Forty shades of blue is stunning.
Huge thanks to Fermie, and fingers crossed on the abolition of the no pet policy. Rescue pets have (and do) rescued me often.

  3. How very therapeutic is the sea. Pet ownership in apartments here rather depends here if you are a tenant or an owner. If it is a no dog building, then tenants will be kicked out soon enough if they don't comply. However, it is a very different matter when trying to enforce such a rule on an owner. It could easily become a protracted legal battle and would the owners of the apartments judge the legal fees involved as money well spent? I did hear a while ago that in our state it was proposed to make pet ownership in any rental or owned property a given right, as long as responsible ownership was part of the right. Good luck with that.

    1. Yes, we are drawing up an agreement about pet policy and the penalty of pet loss for infractions as to noise, pollution, etc.
We mentioned on the original long board list that pets contribute to life extension in seniors and also are a stress buster. I am a firm believer in well-trained pets are happy pets. I've seen far too many run wild and jump on people, etc. The danger of course then is aggression as they don't know boundaries.

      Thanks!

  5. I find the ocean calming too, I head there and spend a few hours whenever I get too stressed and can't think straight. Not often enough though, lately it seems like too much effort to get the two buses or one bus and one train to get across our smallish city to the shore.

    1. That's a shame River. What a huge effort to get there! My beach is about a 10 minute of a lovely straight drive.

I found a brilliant knapsack which holds everything I need and distributes the weight across my back I am hardly aware of it. Then I can carry my chair and camera in one hand.

    1. Gemma I could have stolen her - I wouldn't dream of it of course but she felt like home. I think the feeling was mutual. The way she looked at her companion was the way Ansa would look at me. Am ecstatic kind of grin. Rescues know.

  8. We're an hour from the sea so turn left instead and drive up the hills. Walking in some of our nearby forests can be as peaceful and calming in a similar way as walking along the sea shore.
No dogs allowed so the bird song is the only interruption to the quiet

    1. I'd walk amongst the trees where I used to live - at the back of the property - and it was so soothing. An auto correct for stress. I do love the rhythmic pounding of the surf. It slows the heart rate.

  9. Dogs make everything better. Hoping your building policy gets changed! Wish I had a beach close by that I could get to. Biggest thing I miss living in Ohio is the ocean...I practically grew up at the Jersey shore (the nice part, not that horrid part people know from the tv show). Dogs and the beach; the best combination ever.

    1. So true Elle, dogs and beaches go together. I love living by the ocean, it truly is in my blood from my childhood and even when living in Toronto, we'd drive off to the ocean every chance we got!

  12. I find that when I'm stressed from too many activities, the best solution is not to work harder but to take some time off. I have a nature preserve close by, but it's not as gorgeous as that beach and its trails have been flooded the last month.

  13. What a beautiful post, photograph too, WWW. Fermie knew, for sure!
I miss the sea - though back in North-east England the cold North Sea never looked much like the sea in your gorgeous photograph. :) I hope, soon, to hear news of a new pet for you.

  14. Thank you T. It would be lovely. I was up in NE England once, and I remember those vast, vast, beaches and an endless tide and everything was quite grey but I think I hit it on a bad day. It was similar to Donegal in Ireland but anytime I went to Donegal it was sunny. Makes a huge difference.

  15. I so agree about the ocean. Not having one near is one of my few gripes about where I live. But I make do with the rivers and lakes.
