Little things

I found these on line after a couple of years of trying to find red ones. I have splashes of red around the apartment to warm it up. My kitchen, as I've mentioned before, is so poorly designed as to be laughable. The lack of counter space is unbelievable but I have expanded it with a wooden cart.  And these burner covers add additional counter type space and cheer this section of my home up immeasurably.

These end tables were part of the marital home yonks ago and followed either me or Daughter to various homes since. Most recently as bedside tables in her house. Now they have moved back to me. The lamps (gift from Daughter) don't show how beautifully red they glow and bathe the living room so invitingly at night.

And finally, I bought these cheerful file folders with various messages a long time ago,

I've always loved unusual file folders and treasure the ones I bought in Paris the last time I was there which are so well made and hold so much and can't be bought anywhere here. I've searched.

I'm getting ready for tax season, thus the obsession with file folders. And before you mention them, those accordion jobbies so many are in love with? Have you ever dropped one on the floor? And the space they take up? To each her own. As in all things.

    1. When I bought my recliner I had looked long and hard for a red fabric for it to no avail, there was just wishy washy wannabe reds. Yuck burgundy, etc. My sofa is old but comfortable, right height, right kind of squishy and nap-worthy which is very important. :) I may consider reupholstering for it.

  5. Am just catching up with things after being away and am happy that your health situation has improved so much. Such great news! Your red accents are delightful, so bright and cheery. Take good care.

  6. I like cheery accents, and clever ideas like making more workspace by covering burners. That's really good.

  7. I had an accordion file for a long time, but it finally fell to pieces and now I just have a filing cabinet. I'd never thought of coloured burner covers - what a great idea.

    1. Yes, they are awkward things, you wouldn't believe how many times clients would come clutching one or two or three of these close to their chests, feeling they had solved the world's tax challenges. I always praised them. And as soon as they left we'd roll our eyes and start decanting them into logical piles.

  8. We don't have as much as we used to but we also use splashes of red on fairly neutral colours too. The couch under the window with red lamps each side looks inviting.

    1. Thanks Andrew, I can't quite capture how inviting it is, especially in the evening. Reminds me of a fireplace. Welcoming.

  9. I love everything you showed us. I couldn't make out the burner covers until you explained them. Lovely. And accordion files, yes. For the 20 years I had a business I ran accounts payable from an accordion file.

    1. You probably never upended one on the floor Joanne! Or had one fall apart at the bottom, or tried to get one to stand up straight as it sagged beneath incorrect weight distribution!

  11. I love all your red touches, my sister would too, red is her favourite colour. My white burner covers have a coffee mug design which I will show next week. I have one of those accordion files thingies and always make sure the clip is secure before picking it up.

    1. Yes the ones with the clips are better engineered for their important jobs! A coffee mug design sounds lovely.

  12. Since I live with my son and daughter in love, all home decor matters are handled by them and they see to that my comfort is not disturbed. Other little things like filing are also done by them as I hardly have to keep account of anything any more. I do however like to buy other small things like a back scratcher or a refill for a pen etc, which are all delivered at home as I buy online.

    1. Yes, Ramana, my finds are all online these days. I've been sending a series of gifts to Daughter for her birthday and it's fun hunting for art supplies, etc., that I know she'd never buy for herself.

    1. You totally get it Anne! Those bulging accordions where one couldn't find anything one hunted for were a nightmare but so many bought into the fantasy of them!

  15. I like red, too, because it warms up the space. As for accordion files, I do have one to put all of my tax stuff. But, no, I have never dropped it on the floor. Haha. Take care!

  16. I have a red pillow in my living room and several on the daybed in the office where I'm working. These days, that comfy daybed is a dog bed for our Great Pyr mix who took it over as her own when we adopted her. It's the only furniture I've allowed her to occupy, but I've always loved a dog in the office with me while I'm writing.

    1. I loved that in the good old days of me and Ansa sharing space. I had 3 dog beds for her in various rooms in the house. Bedroom, office and living room. Something so comforting in their presence while the the muse descends.

    1. Classifying stuff for inserting in the file folders is a challenge, E. I did sort properly when I cleared up my hell-hole of all things piled and piled. I was so glad I did as it was completely out of control.
