This past week has had me with spasms in my back, sharp and exhausting in their frequency. Aging means not bouncing back. I find the pain sucks the creativity out of me. I don't return calls, not wishing to burden anyone with my whining. I sit in a pool of misery, wanting to sleep the day away and quite succeeding in that accomplishment and shocked that I actually can sleep through some nights and then maneuver out of my bed slowly and carefully. It seems like soft tissue as it's not near the spine, so some kind of sprain.
I will call the doctor on Monday as over a week of this is quite distressing. Along with that my BP shot through the roof and I don't know why. My old BP monitor whimpered and died and the readings from the new one reflect these new alarming readings.
So there you have it.
Positives:
One 1 case in the last couple of weeks here so we are now in a progression of loosening restrictions, basically following NZ but without reopening schools. We are moving from Alert Level 5 to Alert Level 4. Really good news. Slow and steady is the plan.
I'm getting around to your blogs, slowly but surely.
Objet du Jour
4 healing vials sitting on my windowsill in my bedroom with little messages of comfort within or attached. My two young friends made them for me.
Facebook have a new emoticon which is supposedly created to show care/sympathy/compassion. Consensus is it's a Big Fail but great suggestions have been offered to expand their reactive images. (sorry for the quality of image)
I feel sorry for unexplained aches and pains going on and on; It's so not good and yes it sucks joy and creativity clear from you. I hope the doctor can work some magic or at least still your fears - nothing like an explanation of aches and symptoms to ease your mind.
ReplyDeleteAlbeit short of physical examination. It has taken far too long to leave.

ReplyDeletemy dental appointment next Tuesday am advised by dentis he thinks too risky at time and and wants to wait on pulling 2 teeth, taking strong pain medication and will talk to him on Monday
Oh my Ernestine, you certainly have run through so many challenges in the past few years. I do hope you can get this seen to!

I haven't read your whole post yet, but can tell you stress can cause that kind of back pain and it can also raise your BP.
ReplyDeleteTry to make yourself relax and let go of all the stress. See if the back pain doesn't ease right away with just calming yourself. I have had this happen and it worked for me.
I am trying what you recommend Gemma, so far so bad. I have to laugh. But I will continue on this path of not being so aggravated with it as it halts me in my tracks.

I just sit in a hard chair upright and mindfully relax all my muscles, lower your pulled up shoulders, let all just hang and breath.
Deleteoh, Wisewebwoman, I feel for you. I too am trying to keep my spirits up after confirmation that I have breast cancer. When in to see a local oncologist my b.p. reading was over 200 which scared the hell out of me. Will be having a phone consultation w/ my former oncologist in Boston who treated me 20 yrs. ago. Trust him. This stress combined w/ the disgusting person reigning in Washington and Covid-19 is enough to drive me totally insane. Yuk! I'll be thinking of both of us today and sending best wishes to you. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteSweet gawd, Regina my ailments pale by comparison. Oh I am sending you healing thoughts as you battle this new diagnosis. So worrisome.
DeleteWe are living in stressful times indeed. Though I must say the US is causing much pity and sympathy around the world. Too much power vested in one person and voices of reason, sanity and compassion not prevailing.
Know that Canada is with you, we are horrified.

What's worse than back pain? Nothing. Er, okay, lots ... but when (generic) you have back pain, it turns you into a very old lady whether you are one or not. Or so I find. Won't it be nice if Gemma's Person up there is right and some relaxation exercises solve the problem. I actually had this experience recently: a small area of my gums would ache, and I'd make a point of relaxing my jaw, et voila! the ache would be gone! Oh if only that could work for everything.
ReplyDelete-Kate
I wish it would work too Kate, but no. It is dragging me around with it and the old lady kicks in frequently. At least I can sleep though sporadically, LOL.
DeleteMind over matter is not easy at times!!

Your excruciating pain is undoubtedly causing an increase in blood pressure. I've been told for years by medical people that pain increases blood pressure. Sure hope the doctor has a solution for all of it so you can feel better.
ReplyDeleteYes, I will call him tomorrow. Though the readings were better this morning after meditation.
DeleteBut still in a danger zone.

I feel for you on the sucky spasm front. Bit time.
ReplyDeleteMy city/territory has NO active cases (or none known) at the moment. We are s.l.o.w.l.y walking back from the restrictions. I do hope your doctor can provide some relief. As the know-it-alls at a pain management clinic I went to said 'pain impacts on every aspect of your life'.
As an aside that gem irritated me to the max. They presented it as a new and earthshattering fact - despite the fact that chronic pain lasting over a year was a prerequisite to attend the clinic.
Hugs.
I have a friend in the same boat, a couple of years now and she is 20 years younger than I. She refuses CBD even though I have told her there's no THC in it to impact her mental state. She finally agreed to go to a CBD clinic but shut down now due to Covid.
DeleteCBD helps me but not as much as I'd like.
And of course it impacts everything, sucks the goodwill and creativity like a vacuum cleaner.
These tired old tropes irritate the hell out of me too.

Back spasms are pretty awful. No easing of anything here but our state restrictions are not as harsh as some places.

With sharp back spasms for more than a week, I'm not surprised your BP is up. Any little worry, even if you pretend to not worry, will show in your BP. Hope the doctor has some answers for you about that. The BP and the spasms.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am hoping too. And also doubting my old monitor before it died, was it accurate, was I living in a dream world of good BP for a while, could this pain be kidney cancer? Is my body dying bit by bit. Etcetera. Because that's how my mind works.
DeleteIt will be good to chat with my vibrant and compassionate doctor.

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of more medical issues. Good that Newfoundland is doing well re the virus. England is still firmly in its grip, as yet no sustained fall in either infection or death rates, but the government is desperate to fire up the economy.
I'm a late-comer, WWW. I do hope that you're feeling better and stronger by now. I know exactly how you feel! By the way, re blood pressure, my GP gave me some emergency pills to take in case of bad spikes in BP readings (a med called clonodine). It's still necessary to see him, asap, but the pills calms the BP until an appointment is possible. Maybe something like that would be helpful for you to have on hand - worth asking.
ReplyDeleteDo hope you’re having some relief from pain by now. Wonder if a heating pad helps you relax?
ReplyDeleteGood wishes, just waiting to hear from you, we all care.
ReplyDeleteHere comes a big ol' virtual hug of gratitude and good wishes and care from America. Safe distance...
Thinking of you today as I go through the few blogs I still read. Hope you have a better handle on your pain. And, like the person before me here, I wish a hug of gratitude and good wishes from America.
ReplyDeleteI've been miserable about my inability to bounce back like I used to and there's just no easy way around, it's a matter of sucking it up for as long as it takes.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon
Are you taking Advil? I was taking it three times a day for my chronic back ache (from sitting at the sewing machine all day). It was driving my BP up.
ReplyDeleteGood Monday morning Wisewebwoman…..been thinking about you & sending positive energy your way in the hopes you are upward bound. Hope you will be back to par this week & back to writing. Hugs.
