I have so many masks, so much sanitizer that I could open a small shop and sell consistently for about a week. None of these, apart from one mask which I knitted, have been bought by me. This bounty has been been supplied or mailed by Daughter, Niece and Grandgirl. So I'm good for a couple of years of lockdown. But I get it. It's symbolic in these weird times, isn't it? These guys want me to live and show me this by their munificence.
Covid has started up here again after over 50 days of no new cases. All travel related. One engineer who works on turnaround in Texas, in self isolation, infected his wife and toddler daughter. Another flew home from Asia. Of course these flights are now being contact traced. It is extraordinarily easy to infect others when quarantine isn't enforced, isn't it?
I gifted Niece with her afghan/sofa blanket. I took some pictures with my "real" camera which I haven't downloaded yet - it's complicated as all the USB ports are just about inaccessible at the back of a big heavy screen - huge design fail and irritating as hell.
I hung it on a clothes rack, but you can catch the drift of the design. She was thrilled with it.
You can kinda see the house and certainly the trees of life and the hearts representing her children and the usual Irish symbols of marriage vines and diamonds and honeycombs for abundance.
This bottom one shows the land and see and lighthouse. It's a very large sofa blanket for a large family and impossible to photograph properly, I tried everything.
She is thrilled with it. I'll post photos from the real camera if they are any good at capturing it all.
That blanket is absolutely gorgeous.

I really like the blanket. I really hope measures are strongly in place to stomp down on COVID. As my state has seen, it can take off like wildfire.

Just beautiful. It is so large with so much in it. Not sure I would ever finish such a project altho I enjoy knitting. You did good. As for Covid....still raging here in Eastern Washington. At least now masks are everywhere. Overwhelming to think about it all.

DeleteMasks have not been legislated on our province but others, like Ontario, have.
The trick to finishing larger projects is never to do them piecemeal (i.e. squares or strips). They rarely, if ever, get completed, too much sewing of pieces.
This was done in one fell swoop so to speak and often I only knitted 4 rows at a time, but seeing it climb is a thrill.

It's a beautiful blanket, almost too pretty to use. Would it be machine washable? I can't see anyone hand washing something that size.

Beautiful! An amazing job, I know I’d still be knitting on my deathbed if I was trying to do that! Really, everyone has to mask up or it makes very little difference. If you wear a mask it protects people around you but not yourself. Making masks mandatory is the way to go. I know that after weeks of very little contagion I get lax, so do most people unless they know they are especially vulnerable. Governments should make masks mandatory.

DeleteMasks have to be mandatory. Here if you see 1 in 50 in a mask it is a shock. Husbands don't wear them, the odd wife does. I do wonder about their kids and their multiple bubbles.

A common question being asked by many people on facebook is "Do you wear a mask when going out? Answer Yes or No. I truthfully answered a couple of times that I simply don't go out and got reprimanded for that reply. I have not stepped out of my house since five months now. I however do have one mask which I wear when some tradesman comes to do some work at home or a visitor comes calling who I have to meet. Most visitors understand that with my COPD and age, it is better that I isolate myself in my room and do not mind me not meeting them.

It's a gorgeous piece of art. I feel as if I ought to apologize for Texas, although I go out only for necessary--not routine--medical appointments and to walk my dog through almost empty streets in the early mornings in the country, with the few other regulars out at the same time safely walking on opposite sides of the road. All my close friends are doing the same.

We will get a second wave here. Many don't understand/or don't want to understand how serious this is and believe it's a conspiracy/mild flu.

There seem to be second waves starting in many countries, which is worrying. As you say, international travel is definitely the weak link in virus precautions. Jenny and I aren't going on a foreign holiday until the virus is properly under control. Never mind the destination, airports and public transport must be seething with infection.

I am buying masks constantly and even bought a sewing machine to make some. Mind you, still haven't set up the machine properly yet. But it didn't stop me from buying fabric LOL.
