I spent the afternoon with Niece. We sat downstairs in the downstairs community room. Distant coffees and masked before we sat down and basically a distant hug.
It was so beautiful out there, the traces of a hurricane were busy pulling the leaves off the trees on the back patio but I did manage a couple of pictures of it even though it was too cold to sit outside.
We chatted for nearly 4 hours, about books and knitting and family and workshops and writing. It was wonderful, sorely needed by each of us. We stayed safe but of course residents walking around inside the building are maskless with some wheezing and sneezing and coughing which is frightening. I've maintained if one case comes in here many will die. But they behave as if we are all immune.
Later it was the weekly family Zoom meeting. Every Sunday. Just the siblings. All six of us there today. From all over, Ireland, Canada, Malta and Costa Rica. The Covid and Zoom can have a positive effect on families.
Another picture from outside today. I just love the fall colours and the wee people sitting on the edge of the flowerbed.
A happy post of a happy Sunday. I did look at my calendar to be sure it is Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYes, it did feel very old Sundayish Joanne!

A beautiful post about much needed connections. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe're so far into this "thing" now EC. It almost feels like "normal" some days.

I love the little people sitting on the edge of the garden.
ReplyDeleteI think people coughing and sneezing should be confined to their rooms of they refuse to wear a mask.
It was appalling to me River, his utter disregard and disrespect for others.

So glad your niece could visit in person. And all those sibs on Zoom, amazing. Yes, one odd benefit of covid is people able to use Zoom when it's not an office event.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's un unexpected bonus of these times, Boud.

Hi there, raining here outside Ottawa, Ontario this morning so read a bunch of your posts. I am a Newfoundlander "on the mainland" now so it was lovely to visit familiar places through your eyes. Thanks for the fine writing.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jocelyn, I love when readers unlurk themselves to comment. Especially nice comments!
DeleteLong may your big jib draw. I love this province.

Beautiful! Love the Little People too! You are very lucky to have the weekly family zoom, what a fun thing (I hope :-).
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting, Annie, we delve into history, additions of fresh grandchildren, Covid Numbers (NL seems almost like a joke compared to the others who have over 1000 new cases a day) and memory sharing in a more open way.

I have read this quote a couple of times. "I wear a mask to protect you. You wear a mask to protect me". I think this applies in your building!
ReplyDeleteAnd I've put that post up so many times but they don't see the need here Chris, they won't don't want to "live in fear" and when I tell them it's respect, they are baffled. All are exposed to multiple bubbles.

Good that you are managing to keep in contact with niece and siblings. But how shocking that so many residents couldn't care less about anti-virus precautions. There are a lot of people with the same indifference over here too.
ReplyDeleteIt's extraordinary Nick and it all boils down to "freedoms" and that tinfoil hat thing about government control if you take them up on it.

One of our deacons, who now lives in a senior living estate, cannot join the deacon ZOOM meetings as every Sunday is a meeting of all of her siblings. I told her that was just fine and that it was much better to have her cheering on her family members than sitting with the deacons. The senior estate was on lockdown for much of the summer but has lifted restrictions as we have improved our virus numbers, but this lady, much like me, prefers to still follow all the protocols. We all have to do our part.
ReplyDeleteExactly DKZ, it's all about community and not individuals. Seems we got it right here in our province with so few cases we were featured in the NY Times a day or so ago.
DeleteThe economies are going to tank anyway but lives before money and the greed of our overlords.

Beautiful color in that tree.
ReplyDeleteOur family did some Zoom things early on and I think still do some, but I've bugged out. I am in front of a computer doing telehealth all damned day and the last thing I want to do in my free time is get back in front of the computer camera.
I just realized I said basically the same thing to your last post - guess I'm a little burned out with tele-platforms! :-)
DeleteFour hours of chatting! That would need cake (or maybe hot chips) and multiple coffees.
ReplyDeleteThe wee people are delightful and I'm pleased you are managing to connect
Virtually no cases here Kylie, we are very lucky but we still have an what some call "an excess of caution" which can only be a good thing.
DeleteI love The Chat.
