Post Performance

Wow! Wow cubed!

As promised, a report on the NIGHT.

Nerves vanished as soon as I sat on stool to SeanchaĆ myself: miked, filmed, applauded, dispatched to bar, where I met with many of the audience. The craic was ninety. There were cameras lurking in every corner as the crew who are making the series on the history of our bay want to catch the atmosphere and flavour and charm of rural Newfoundland. So into this melee a tourist from Boston, Mass. walks in to the bar to book a room at the inn for the night. First visit to Newfoundland. One couldn't script this. The place was packed. He is stunned at his reception, applauding the fact his family is from Mayo originally. So Cork meets Mayo in a Newfoundland inn on the edge of the Atlantic. I think the guy's head is still spinning at the level of the welcome.

The music was incredible, the talent awesome. Only in Ireland do you get the equivalent of a Newfoundland "time". Oh, well, of course, most of the inhabitants around the bay are descended from Irish stock. And brought the ceol (music), caint (talk) and craic with them.

I'm beginning to like this. A lot.

PS Anyone know how to pixellate a face out of a photo? I tried pikasa and can't seem to work it. As promised, I was going to post a picture of myself but with my anonymity preserved.....

  2. Fantastic, WWW. Well done.

It's obvious from your writing that you have the gift of telling a great tale. But that doesn't always translate into verbal fluency, which you have in spades.

I've always wondered why the majority of Seannchai were male. In my family, although my father was regarded by everyone as a great raconteur, on the few occasions that she told a story, my mother could really make it come alive.

I hope you have started a tradition and will become known as the godmother of a new generation of female Seannchais.

  3. As I get to know my stories better I will become more fluent. I need to have little headlines in my head, if you know what I mean-clues to the story. It was the same story but I told it quite differently :)
Yes, we need the women's voices. The Caint of the Crone.

  5. That sounds like a fantastic night, may it be only the beginning.

As for the photo problem... Do you use iii's of MS? If the latter I can show you how I do it?

  6. Congratualtions! I'm glad it went so well!

In picasa, you can use the retouch tool and remove little chunks a circle at a time.

  8. Thanks SAW. Yes I went in there but couldn't get the pixellate to micro itself, it nearly obliterated the entire picture...

  10. Attagirl!
    Of course you’s do it.

I am so glad it went well and you enjoyed yourself. You certainly sound as if you did.

I’ve caught up on the missed posts again and I can almost see you and your life. There is so much joix de vivre in everything you do, certainly on the surface. I am glad you gave up doing things you don’t want to do.

  11. I can imagine the tourist's bemusement and pleasure at the extraordinary welcome he received, for no apparent reason! A night to remember for him as well!
