Surreality
View from the Tigeen
I'm up over the trees and the birds and the ocean in my Tigeen. Where good stuff happens. Like writing. Like musing.
And then, a half an hour ago, I hear the sounds of the cemetery mass floating on the air towards me. Crystal clear. Something I'd never hear in my house below.
This is a combination of the placement of the Tigeen, the prevailing breeze and acoustics.
The sermon arrives at me intact. The bits of singing, the readings. The sounds of my childhood and some adult years. The pray-for-usses, the pleadings, the begging of Himself, the Invisible Cosmic Housekeeper, to do what he is requested but only if it is his will - a wonderful form of circular thinking. And a win-win for those requested to intercede to end the suffering, or grant the wishes. I used to wonder - even when practising these rituals - about that. As in why bother praying (and paying) if he's going to do what he damn well pleases anyway?
I am so detached from all of that mumbo-jumbo now, a bemused ear is thrown over to the graveyard. A reflection on all the money collected for these lamentations and laundry lists.
"Oh Lamb of God" I hear as I type this, "Fear not I will come for thee". Yelled very loudly by he who officiates, white biscuit held high above his head I would imagine.
And then I imagine ICH convulsed on a cloud, snorting uncontrollably, finally collapsing in helpless laughter.

The invisible cosmic housekeeper, should have spent a little more time than six days to complete his project. I certainly hope he was not awarded an A* for his efforts!
ReplyDeleteOh I think we are still being worked on by ICH GM - we are not as finished as we think we are by a long shot!

Huh, this doesn't really resonate with me. I've long since decided that it all random, or some scientific trend we've not discovered in the evolution of life.
ReplyDeleteI've seen no evidence of a 'god', plenty of explainations of our need for a faith-based thought process that explain it to my satisfaction. I'm quite content with the notion that when I die I go back to the earth, matter is not destroyed, changed yes, but it's still there. That's just fine with me.
I just read ICH as ‘ich’ meaning I, me, myself in German.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fitting, don’t you think?
The great ‘ich’ up in the clouds, watching the ants crawl about and occasionally stirring up the heap with a careless stick.
What do you think though, will be always be catholics in some form or other?
The ICH is most certainly the most entertained entity in the universe. Your experience is like my daily dose of the Muezzin's call of the Azaan five times a day when the monsoon sets in and the clouds enable the sound to carry over three kms. I too imagine Allah going nuts listening to that five times a day every day from each time zone from millions of mosques!
ReplyDeleteSFM:
ReplyDeleteEternal life. Of course. But not in a gilded mansion with a harp singing praises to ICH.

ReplyDeleteCatholics are becoming a rare tribe indeed. 3,000 in my local parish a few years back and now 250 (all tottering) practising. The rest don't bother. The scandals were taken to heart and there were horrific abuses of children in orphanages here.
I'm so glad I woke up. I was so brainwashed it makes me shiver.

ReplyDeleteThat's incredible. ICH holds the hands over the ears and groans, yeah?
We're all batshit crazy..... :)

So Mary had a little lamb of god that followed her everywhere?
ReplyDeleteNot anymore, Hattie, not anymore :)

When I was growing up, there were times when the hour in Sunday School and the hour in church were the only quiet hours in my life. Some Sundays my mom and I would literally "escape" to church, albeit a liberal Protestant church where all were welcome. I remember that as my view of the universe has expanded many times over in recent years. I do believe there are forces larger than me at work ~ I am less sure than I've ever been about what that means exactly.
