Change

Once the initial excitement is over, change, even planned change, exhausts me. My brain doesn't function properly, you should see me struggling with a knitting pattern I'm designing, or trying to make a municipal decision today.

I filled out the application for my new life, pretty please. It helps, the instructions said, if I can lay claim to a veteran in the family. I decided against hauling out my grandfather's (old)IRA fight for Irish freedom. Instead I focussed on his estranged son's (still alive - 90++) long international career in the RAF and my occasional participation and partying at local Canadian legions.

My resident friend called and said it was the best time to apply as residents were dropping like flies in the last few days, old age, transfers to extended care homes and one marriage.

Much as I hate jumping on another's misfortune, I had to laugh at the droll way she said it.

So I got my act together and signed and mailed off. Thank you for your service to the enemy, Uncle Michael.

  1. Wow. You've had so much going on. This is all happening so fast. Take a breath. I'm told that things happen when the time is right. Pray that is so and carry on;)

    1. Yes, I'm a firm believer in "Do it now" Sharon as the Baby Boomers are truly on my tail, I'm one breath ahead I like to believe and if I don't do it now I can't see a When.

    3. Not even brave, seriously. I'm ready. It's getting more and more challenging to manage the complexity of my life and the over 7 acres + outbuildings of it all.

    1. Military relatives to get into "old folks homes"? Well, let's see. My kin took no prisoners at the Frog Lake Massacre. Will that do? I had no inkling this might come in handy one day.

It's troubling to me learning you are leaving what must be the dream of all reading here, and must have been your too, but, needs must for us all eventually.

  5. What a coincidence!! Shirl and I have just been put on a list for a unit in one of the senior buildings here.As it happens in those building residents "are dropping like flies" so we might have a unit before the end of this year.

    1. Synchronicity or what GFB? Yes we are one jump of the Baby Boomers and that's one of the reasons I'm not deferring going on that waiting list.
