Monday Melange

Life seems to have returned to normal here out on The Edge. Stores, restaurants and pubs along with theatres are open. Downtown is brisk with shoppers and walkers, new restaurants have opened along with beer gardens and art galleries.

Still.

A ship is anchored in the harbour with 11 cases of Covid aboard (at last count) and one case was boated off to hospital. The ship is in quarantine.

Any new cases on the island have been identified and isolated so there is no community transmission.

Still.

I realize we are all leaning on the trust of our fellow humans.

Grandgirl and partner arrived here safely and were interrogated thoroughly at the Newfoundland border. Which is a relief. They are now in quarantine. I saw them at a distance yesterday when I was dropping off some supplies. The desire to hug was so strong it brought tears to my eyes. But we didn't. I have now more relatives on this island than I ever dreamed possible.

I took this picture on Signal Hill the other evening. A slight fog. You can barely make out the ships in the harbour.

This gave me pause:

And this made me laugh so hard.

Peace out.

Love the quote about witches - and how true it is.
    And adore foggy mornings.

  7. It can all go wrong so easily. Vigilance is needed.
I wonder if the saying could be applied to white people who lynched black people. I expect so.
    The car is brilliant.

    1. Your analogy is excellent Andrew. The justification for these horrors are written by the abusers indeed.

  10. You’ll hug granddtr soon — patience a bit longer. Oh, the reverse perspective on many things might well be wise to consider.

    1. Yes, I was lucky in school in that we were taught to question everything. Quite radical for its time. I remember hearing about the million (?) witches slaughtered for no reason. They were experts in healing with herbs but that interfered with the Xtian way of praying (and tithing) to the Invisible Cosmic Housekeeper, so off with their heads.

  11. The car cartoon is brilliant. Thank you. Things are vastly different here. We have total lockdown except for essential services during the week end and four hour windows for opening shops selling groceries, vegetables, milk etc. Since home delivery and take away is allowed for eateries, you say morons outside them eating on the road and littering paper plates cups etc all over the place. This situation is to carry on till the 15th when a review will take place.

    1. India is a horror story Ramana, I can't bear seeing the photos and the number of cases. I avert my eyes. It chills me to the bone. I do hope things improve and I think of you a lot as you must be surrounded by grief and terror.

    1. Me too Nick, it all feels so fragile. They were tested today as their flight had, guess what, an infected passenger, caught at the border though, so contained.

I posted an article from CNN today which sheds a bit of a downer on things.

And so true about the witches versus their tormentors.
