The Day After

Michael Moore predicted it in July. And I remember back then, when reading it, my heart freezing in fear. But I quickly shrugged and thought: Never.

We can analyze the thing to death but it gets us nowhere when so many feel angry and abused and misunderstood and fall in love with the jingoism of making a country great again. What was great? The Civil War? Endless wars on foreign soil? Women without the vote? Slavery? And on. Maybe Norman Rockwell's portrayal of an America that never existed. Or Hollywood's old black and whites evoking the fantasies of what refugee Jewish intellectuals and artists envisioned as their perfect apple-pie America?

Who the hell knows? Nobody explains it. Gun sales have soared.

So violence comes into it. And outrageous misogyny. And a lack of critical thinking.

And maybe this simplistic, inarticulate, non-intellectual and inexperienced psychopath reflects back onto those who voted for him their own damaged, wounded selves.

Who knows?

But this is only the beginning.

For vengeance is his now.

Duck and cover.

  1. It's already started: Melania has said she will be a traditional First Lady. Like Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie Kennedy.

    (Cue headesks).

At least the horror will come with a side of hysterical humour.

  3. I wasn't surprised. The area I where I grew up in Georgia voted 83% for Trump. It makes no sense. I bet I've heard a million times the phrase "good Christian man." That type of person seemed to be what everybody valued and looked for over the years, and yet they've voted for the opposite. Well, except he is male; that's a big part of it.

  4. When my five year old grand-daughter heard on the radio that Trump won, she went on a mournful rant about how he hates Muslims and that he was going to kick them out. "He hates them...I guess that's because he hates himself". (!)

  5. I read that a "sitting president" cannot be prosecuted, and if that's true, he gets away with the things he's been accused of: child rape, non-payment of bills, etc. Now if THAT doesn't make your guts burn!! I hope it isn't true.

    1. I believe in our constitutional republic and though it appears we have strayed from the path in recent years, there is hope.
“A Constitutional Republic” is a government created and controlled, at least, by the Law of a Constitution. The Constitution of the United States of America was, in Law, a foundation based on the Bible, the Magna Carta and the Declaration of Independence. Those documents recognize man’s sovereignty, the divine nature of man’s creation and man’s divine right to Life, Liberty, the means of acquiring and possessing Property, and the pursuit of happiness."

    3. Anonymous, I put my name to my comments, and I stand for what I believe in, and I voted for Trump.

"To all the people whose behavior over the past 48 hours has been absolutely atrocious I just have one word for you? WHY? Why are your fears so much worse than mine were? Why is it ok for you to bully, to name call, and to generalize people who disagree with you as uneducated because they don’t share your beliefs or vote?

For the past two presidential elections the vote did not go my way, so YES… I can sympathize with your feelings of fear for the unknown, anger for the thought of how ANYONE can vote this person into office, anxiety over having an uncertain future for me my family and my country. I know you are feeling these things because I have been there and I have felt them too but what I absolutely cannot wrap my head around is your behavior. It’s shameful….in the past eight years I have never picketed, rallied, or protested the leader the American people voted for. I never bullied or belittled others who didn’t share my same belief systems. I did not insult their intelligence because of our varying views. I did not blast disrespectful garbage about the president on every social media site possible. And most importantly I damn sure didn’t burn the American Flag.

I thought you were supposed to be the people preaching love and acceptance. I thought you were against hate….all forms of hate! But an election doesn’t go your way and the vile things spewing from your mouths posted on your social media sites and all of your downright embarrassing behavior leads me to believe you should probably sit down and do some self-reflection and maybe try practicing what you preach. For the past 8 years I have felt defeated, stifled, and often time hopeless yet I still did not react in hate. I did not call others with different political views and beliefs names or accuse them of being stupid or uneducated. I never hoped that the president would fail or even worse be assassinated, and I never NEVER stopped loving my country. You know what I did; I picked myself up, dusted myself off and prayed that the man the people elected could do the job because even though I didn’t vote for him nor did I agree with most of his views he WAS the people’s choice.

So it goes back to my original question…WHY? Why is it ok for you to behave poorly say abhorrent things, and burn American flags when if the role was reversed you would crucify me and label me as un-American and racist or even sexist for doing the exact same thing you are doing now? It’s time to show some maturity….treat people with respect…Treat our FLAG with respect because a lot of people have died protecting it for you and me and they deserve better than your ignorance.

As for the President of the United States it’s only been two days why don’t you sit back and see what he has to say and what he does for the country….let’s see if he can turn some of this mess around. At the very least conduct yourselves like the classy Americans I know you can be, and in the end if you still aren’t happy with his results at least you’ll have your righteous indignation to fall back on." ~ Brandy Martin

    4. Sorry, no one here has done any of that to you. Calm yourself. We have a right to assess what he is or isn't. He has told us himself. Words from his own mouth. As for those who support him, I think they need to read what he has done and said. Americans are becoming like the Chinese during Maoism, you are kept from the truth, your media censors what you get, and when it's in your face, you deny it.

I have no idea who Brandy Martin is, but she is in need of medical care. Is she auditioning for a daytime soap?

  8. I was amazed to see Trump at the White House today and how calm and polite he acted. During the campaign he screamed about how bad Obama was as president and then today he compliments him on a job well done. I don't think Trump knew what he was getting into and Obama started filling him in and he realized he is in over his head.

  9. Just to make it clear, so that poor WW isn't charged with harbouring a Clinton supporter: If I was American I would not have voted.

But you know,if you supported him, and defend him, you *wear* him.

  10. Oh dear, it's so sad that people can't just get on. America is the most polarized nation on earth. I know, I lived there fifteen years. I saw the poverty, degradation, racial tensions, police assassinations. I also saw the fancy mansions, private jets, and the arrogance at the other end of the scale. Despite her fancy promises Clinton wouldn't have changed any of that, anymore than Obama did despite HIS fancy promises.
I agree with everything 'Brig' wrote. I don't believe for one moment Trump'll change anything for the better. He's a narcissist who's just achieved his greatest ambition - the pinnacle of world power. Sadly, I think he'll be a figurehead only and it'll leave a power vacuum the far-right of the Republican Party will leap into with alacrity. That won't be good for America.
But the choice was of two evils. There was no 'lesser'. Clinton is just as besmirched as Trump - just in different ways.
But 'Brig' is right. Americans need to get their act together and stop blaming each other for a state of affairs they've allowed to happen. Until they come together and stop their childish bickering, and immature behavior such as we've seen on our TV screens recently, all they'll ever get to lead them is the corrupt and contemptible.
That's all I have to say on the subject, as I have no desire, and too much respect for WWW, to turn her blog into a political football.

  12. Ladies, not to worry.

I've heard talk that Obama will issue blanket pardons to Hillary for "any crimes she might have committed" and one for Bill for "any acts pedophilia he might have committed."

    A happy ending, right?

  14. Violence we don't need but there are segments of our society who have their own agendas. I highly recommend reading this commentary I became aware of just today. She's a prominent highly respected 49 year old Russian and American Journalist Masha Gessen who has had first hand experience living as a citizen in both countries:

He is the son of a multi-millionaire who left the young Donald $14 million.
