Day 4

....And all going well.

Thoughts:

I find this fascinating in a family:

Brothers talk to brothers differently than they do to their sisters, (less emotionally).

Sisters talk to sisters differently than they do to brothers (more emotionally).

And brothers when engaging with sisters and vice versa talk differently (tap into their own emotions).

Why is that I wonder? I do think men miss out on so much of their inner lives.

I'm not talking all men as I have both men friends and male cousins who are very open with their emotions and our conversations are rich as a result of this.

Old Chestnuts:
(1)If one grows one's hair long it saps all the strength from one's body. Is there any truth to this?

(2)My father would say "Cop yourself on" if you were heading in a downward direction. I like it. I put it on my mini-blackboard as a monthly message but I added FFS for good measure. It keeps me mindful of staying on track.

So my iris turned out to be crocus and she had another two sisters this morning.

I just love these cheeky tiny things. I'm like a mother hen.

  1. Brothers bah! I started with two, but the one who was my friend and supporter left us when he was 28. The other turned into a right wing nut. We could sit together in silence, but we could not talk.
    Saps all the strength: bwahahahahaha
Beautiful crocus. Purple is so good.

    1. Purple is beautiful, fills me with peace.

Most boys are raised in toxic masculinity IMO.

  2. I suppose the way siblings relate to each other comes down to social conditioning.
Cop yourself, I've heard, meaning take a good look at yourself.
Now who do we know who we could try that hair theory with? Longish hair? Lacking energy? I can't think of a single person. 🤨

    1. It just popped into my head about the hair as I had glorious hair down to my waist and my father insisted my mother take me to a hairdresser for chopping as it would make me stronger. But the hairdresser refused and said it would be a "sin."

    1: no
2: "get over yourself" was commonly heard when family or friends started "big-noting" themselves, ie: thinking they were better than the rest of us.
Love the gorgeous colour of the crocus flowers.

    1. Yes, I'm familiar with get over yourself which pointed to one's vanity. Cop yourself on pointed at one's failings.

  4. Long hair sapping strength? Never heard about Gloiath?
And Oh, I just thought crocuses were called irises in English. Thanks for telling me differently today :) They are so pretty!

    2. They were labelled irises as the wee shoots I bought. So it could be the Newfoundland name.

  5. Beautiful purple flowers! Made my day. As for emotions, you should watch David watching sports on TV. Oh, boy, talk about emotions.

    1. I view sports-watching men a little differently Gigi, I'm afraid. Railing at millionaire strangers on ice or playing field I find sad, always have. No emotional engagement just yelling into the void of wanting to win with no one hearing them apart from long suffering family members.

  7. I'm close to one of my brothers, and he will sometimes talk about emotional things but not as much as my sisters. But my sons talk to each other the way sisters do.

  8. My older brother side-stepped emotional conversation except when I tried to learn about our father who abandoned us when i was quite young and my bro a teen. Then he didn't have enough emotionally loaded negative words to describe him but never a positive memory as our mother sometimes recalled.
