The Joys of the Simple Life

Daughter gave me a bread maker. I'd always wanted one but couldn't justify the cost. My wrists are the weakest part of me and kneading dough was always a challenge, so I'd make my Irish soda bread and leave yeasty concoctions to professional bakers.

See, she had this rather nice one she'd used before she became gluten-free for health reasons. It's hard to believe these kind of machines exist. They do ALL the work. You just measure out all the ingredients and put them into the unit in order. And push a button.

I can't tell you what this means to me. The scent of baking bread filling up the house fills up my soul.

I'm a pioneer woman, making her own yogurt and jams and breads.

There's no stopping me now.

  1. That made me smile, WWW.

There are many reasons some of us don't/can't knead. Lack of patience for one. All my woes came to an end when I had broken my wrist and asked the then rather young Angel (his hands correspondingly small) to do the kneading for me. It was a revelation watching him. Such dedication, such concentration on the moment. And, yes, to this day he is cool to the point of chilled. Until he finds himself face to face with a moth (at night/in the bathroom).

As to your 'making her own ...' there is no stopping me either. Other than doing the maths. Which reminds me of my mother-in-law. A sweet woman. She died a year after her son and I got married. A day after her funeral we found the last of her famed chicken and cranberry casserole in the freezer.

  2. "The scent of baking bread filling up the house fills up my soul." It also helps to sell a house when being shown to prospective buyers.

  7. Such a marvellous invention and the smell is heavenly. I throw in a generous handful of sunflower and pumpkin seeds and some linseed.....sheer luxury.

  8. I had one, but it went the way of most of my kitchen gadgets. Turns out, kneading is the only part of bread-making I actually like.
