Hanging In

"Hang In There" was a phrase used oftentimes in the good old days.

I'm trying not to despair and rage and rant today when I see the actual horrific numbers of USians who voted for this narcissistic monster who doesn't give a shyte about any of them. Is this the soul of the USA laid bare? The mirror relecting this psychopathic sub-human? Who sees them die, who sees them infected and never throws a glance their way? Who has never exhibited a shred of compassion? Who whines like a 2 year old? Who can turn his back on children in cages and lose track of their parents? And uses the USA as a personal ATM?

My friends in the USA are terrified. With just cause. The world is terrified.

Is there hope? I've stopped tracking the ongoing results. He may have bought the electoral college. Who knows? And the supreme court is in his pocket to declare him a winner. Well, hold on, he already declared himself the winner. Breaking more laws which seem meaningless when it comes to this dictator.

So on to other stuff:

Personal Positives ------------------

(1)Finally, finally I get lab work done in my home. A lovely man showed up yesterday to do the fluid extractions and will fire off the reports to my doctors on line. How wonderful is this? The clinics and hospitals were such such a challenge. (2)I listen to the ordinary sights and sounds outside my window and celebrate them. The ordinary is so important these days. The horns of the ships in the harbour, the community bus pulling up for the resident shoppers ($5.00 return to take them far and wide to different stores and then come back hours later to pick them up) (3) A little flurry of snow, reminding us that winter is on it's way. Now it's gone, like a breath. (4) My new cleaner, Jessica, has to be seen to be believed. Never have I had a cleaner like her. So thorough and energetic and she cleans, like everything. (5) I change my sign on my little blackboard every month. This month is "gratitude". I think of the small things and the large things that keep me grateful. Living in Canada, living in Newfoundland, with no new cases in 9 days now. And only 4 active ones. A prime minister who keeps our borders closed to the USA and begins more serious negotiations with the EU.

So Hang in there USA!

  1. I am watching in horror and despair. And disbelief.
On a much more positive note, I am thrilled that you were able to get your lab work done without having to brave the hospital. And envy you your cleaner.
Gratitude is a wonderful word - and concept. A gift which keeps giving.

    1. I need the reminder more times than I care to admit, EC. I find myself with an internal moan of woe is me and have to just about slap myself to stop.

Jessica told me today that she enters pre-law at the uni this January but will continue her cleaning for me (insides of drawers! oven! fridge!) She is amazing.

  2. It is heartbreaking. I didn't watch any news on Tuesday, not watching any today, just the bits and pieces I get on social media. My anxiety level cannot tolerate anything more. I am reading to two classes today, so am channeling my Mr. Rogers persona.

  3. Oh Wisewebwoman......oh! oh! oh! I enjoyed your writing today and especially the offer of an Emotional Support Canadian. Good to laugh a bit. Happy to hear things are going your way to your liking now. Wish I had the opportunity to have lab work and a few other things from home. I've been really busy this year since February running like the proverbial "chicken without a head" to three different hospitals for all sorts of fun. It truly is taxing. My year has flown by. Having a person to my home to do some housekeeping is my next priority. I'm glad that your new person is so terrific. Truly! Wasn't able to sleep well last night due to the Trumpty Dumpty Humpty stress which I have been experiencing for too many years. I'm anxious to have this done with and "it" gone from the White House which will have to be fumigated. I know you understand. I'm thinking a lot now about my options for relocating far away.

    1. Yes, Regina, some here in NL saw the writing on the wall four years ago and applied for landed status here and received it. Interestingly it is much harder to immigrate in here than to the US.

I think a cleaner is so hit or miss. I was just so fortunate to get Jessica. She is just wonderful and a self-starter. Makes a little report to me at the end of her visit. Like I did this, I did that. Takes the garbage out too. My life is so much easier now.

Fingers crossed for all my dearies in the US. I hate that your country has come to this. I have so many great memories of all the times I spent there, even worked in Fla for a while.

    2. Quite a few years ago - 8 or so: my husband's maternal and fraternal grandparents were from Nova Scotia & we had been there several times and loved it. BUT: Canada was tough in that we were retired and would have to have had to live back in the US half the time - the other in Nova Scotia. My husband tried very valiantly to manage to get permission & I truly thought because of his grandparents living their lives there, it should have been a little easier. There wasn't any way we would comfortably be able to live half a year in each country. And since we were retired, we didn't have any intention of starting a business, etc. Very, very disappointed. I would be there in a minute if I could. So beautiful and lovely people.

    3. Oh that is too bad Regina. I am aware of how strict it is if one is not a refugee, but joking aside, some USians I know are thinking of claiming refugee status if the fascist monster rules again. Might be worth a try.

I wonder is there anyway your husband could claim citizenship as a grandchild of Canadians? My Grandaughter, born here of my Canadian daughter, claimed Irish citizenship as she had considered finishing her degrees in Dublin. So worth checking out for Canadian maybe.

Good luck. You would love Newfoundland if you love NS. I've never known a place like it.

  5. So hard to even look at the results this morning. I am on the east side of WA state which is (like Oregon's east side) very Red. D's have been unable to make inroads in the last 20 yrs except for the local District Attorney. It always comes out about 65 R to 35 D. We tried. Have had great candidates. It's funny because we are also an area dependent on Fed $ for a big cleanup project related to nuclear. We also have a major lab with a lot of Phd scientists. And I live a few blocks from the local WSU campus. I just don't get it. Happy though that the West side of the state gets it right. Hanging in there today.

Many good essayists have written about this today.

  6. I have an honorary Canadian granddaughter, who has already offered to be my Emotional Support Canadian!

It's looking as if we can finally dislodge the people in the white house..but there will be court shenanigans.

I'm very proud of two things in this mess: one that the efforts of bullies to frighten people out of voting didn't work at all. No incidents reported at the polls on election day. And two, that there was a huge turnout, more like what we'd like to see for elections.

Some good people were returned, and in two years a lot of the gop in the senate will be up for election, and vulnerable, so there's always midterm hope.

We'll get through this. And Trump will be hit with a lot of indictments the minute they can be processed. In New York State, the AG already has hers prepared.

  8. I feel dejected. When Joe Biden said “we are better than this,” I think only 50% of the people are. Last Sept. I drove to GA from TN to get an absentee ballot sent to Nashville – they told me it was too late to change the address because it had already been sent to my GA address on 15 Sept. I drove twice to GA in Oct to get it, it never arrived. I finally voted in person (after driving 1000 miles.) Georgia should turn blue but there is so much cheating here. I am still hoping. I sure need a Canadian emotional support – have been alone with my cat since last March. I think I am forgetting how to speak.

Why on earth is it so complicated to vote in your country? Here we say we tick a box on our tax returns and elect to get our voting cards. and bingo we get them.

Then we have advance polls and regular polls.

And results are in within a day or two. I know we are a smaller country but it should be just as easy elsewhere.

Hang in there. The righteous will prevail.

  11. i have been extremely alarmed to discover there are so many in the U.S. who basically have betrayed the values I’ve always believed virtually all in our nation stood for as this election has revealed. Hard to believe they didn't see the light after four years. So many hood-winked or revealing their true selves these years later. Am glad to know Canadians are with us. We need all the support we can get.

Itonically, family history has brothers who divided in the days of our nation’s founding—- two fought in our revolution to establish our independence, two went to Canada because the wanted to remain with the King. Relations were forever severed; surname spelling altered by those in what became U.S.

    1. Interesting back story there, Joared. Yes, this horrific underbelly has now being exposed. As one writer had it, these voters say they are voting dem just to keep the peace in their families but vote the opposite when in the booth. They love 45's so-called "values". Keep the blacks and emigrants out and show women their place.

  16. I try to understand what motivates his supporters. I think that people who have education and jobs often are blind to the working class. Factory and clerical jobs started disappearing many presidents ago. Two terms of Clinton and two of Obama didn't help much as the jobs and wages disappeared. They were both cozy with corporations. It's not just conservative political beliefs, racism, misogyny in an unholy bundle, it's also fear and grief as they sink down the scale. Much easier to turn all this into outward anger.

Once China started producing all the goods formerly manufactured in the US, that was the beginning of the collapse of the military industrial complex of local production.

And I agree with the huge lobbies influencing policy all presidents are in their pockets.

  19. "It is so discouraging (and disgusting) that so many side with racism, misogyny and fascism."

I know multiple folks who weren't siding with any of those things and would resent the characterization. They are small business people trying to make a living and employ some folks in the process, and they believe the Republian choice was the better choice for their livelihood - because they saw that was the case in the previous 4 years. So everyone has their own reasons for their choice. I don't understand why that isn't okay?

  20. Responsible American voters do not inflict a Donald Trump on the nation and world. You are tarred by the brush he wielded and you are guilty of betraying the nation. You may feel resentment; you should feel ashamed. The Republican Party needs to be rebuilt by honorable men and women.

  22. I don't think it's our soul laid bare. I think it's symptomatic of disenfranchised people (the working poor) feeling left behind and scared. And fear and ignorance is a dangerous combination. I think the Democratic party needs to look hard at that problem and start helping the people who most need help. Whether Biden and Harris will learn that lesson I don't know, but I hope so.

I’m Stephanie Brown, I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C , I lived in pain with the knowledge that I wasn’t going to ever be well again. I have used several antiviral medications include Entacavir, lamivudine but this could not fight the virus off me rather I got side effects of fever, muscle and joint pain. After spending so much money on antiviral drugs but I never get better. I made research on the internet for herbal medicine. AS I was determined to get my lifestyle back and to be able to do things I am restricted from doing, I saw a lady’s post on how Herbal Dr. JAMES cured her of HIV with his herbal mix medicine. I contacted the same Doctor through his email....greatcureman@gmail.com....we spoke, I told him all that I have been going through, and he told me not to worry that everything will be better again, so he prepared his herbal mix medicine and sent it to me through DHL courier company and told me the usage, after 21 days of completing the herbal medicine, I was totally free from Hepatitis B, I went to see a doctor for a blood test, After taking a sample of my blood for the test the result came out negative, I just can’t deny that I’m the happiest woman on earth this very moment, I’m so happy and thanks to Herbal Doctor JAMES,

  24. This post brought tears to my eyes. You are not wrong. The worst part is that the Republicans don't live in a vacuum and all their wreckage impacts the rest of the country and world. It will take an enormous amount of effort, money, and person-power to bring us back to a baseline of normal before we can even begin to think about making progress again. I thank God and the Universe and Democrats every day, often and sometimes out loud, that sanity reigned and Joe Biden will be our president. He has been only a gracious, honest, hard working, forward thinking, inclusive leader and is the person to see us through. Thanks to all the Canadians who have our back ~ we continue to need your thoughts and prayers as we made our way out of this mess.
