Blog Jam

Yeah, June 1st and I have the fire going. Grateful for this. Why? I can't stomach the humid solid heat of other places I've lived.

Day 13 of ear infection. Battled by two antibiotics and ear drops now and only a teensy improvement to hearing and pain. Back to the doc on Monday if no change.

Day 3 of stomach flu, not as bad as yesterday but I am self-confined to barracks.

Being alone gives me time to reflect and create. I need a lot of alone time. I designed a baby afghan in my beloved aran knitting for a child arriving in August. I outlined a new play.

Mantras are helpful in reprogramming the brain and distancing from hurtful behaviours of others. I no longer take on the rejection and spite of those who profess to love me. It is their issue and not mine and I will not make it mine.
"My reaction to others is entirely controlled by me."
Fall back mantra:
"I am far too old for this shyte."

The older I get the more I realize that I have to make time for play, running (OK, loping) on the beach, collecting little treasures as my forty-mumble daughter does, making ridiculous scrapbooks, playing hide and seek with the dog, wearing a bright red floaty shirt just because, trying new recipes, playing music far too loudly.

And I will reflect daily on the line of the old song:

"And always remember the longer you live, the sooner you'll bloody well die."

Make each moment count, my friends!

  1. I like your attitude WWW from the perspective of this 75 year old geezer.

I make no long range plans anymore.I don't give a damn what people think of me now cuz soon I will be dead and forgotten.

Now everyday I wake up and grateful that my Creator has given me another day to enjoy my family and my wonderful wife.

Keep doing what makes you happy, shun the toxic and love your life. Its a worthy one I think.

  2. Yes, GFB, shunning the toxic is well said. I would waste so much time in analyzing the appalling actions of others. No more.
In the moment, enjoying what I have and not reflecting on what is missing.
    Onward!

  3. That's a very nasty infection you've caught WWW - I hope it starts to improve very soon.

I love your fall back matra - it's almost the same as one of mine too. I borrowed it originally from Danny Glover in "Lethal Weapon" :-)

.....And don't forget to wear purple and...satin sandals, and say you've no money for butter....
    ;-)

    Get well, dear WWW!

  5. We have no time for bullshit. It's as simple as that. You sure are being sick a long time. Tell your witch doctor you need strong medicine!

  6. So sorry to read that you are still unwell. Just a thought: There could be a connection between antibiotic intake and stomach flu, as the antibiotics kill all bacteria, even those friendly ones that work in our guts. You can counteract this by eating some unsweetened natural yoghurt. Works for me.
    All the best.

  7. It is never too late to have a happy childhood. The second one is up to you!

Don't neglect that ear, and yes, bio yoghurt is a good companion with antibiotics.

    Take care my friend. Hugs

I've no idea why the anti-bs are not working on my ears. An awful nuisance.
It is lingering far too long.

  12. I love the first mantra about the reactions to others completely controlled by me. Perfect. That's all I need to know.

  14. Yes, we too have have a fire in the wood stove. It's darned chilly for June. Like you, we love it. Meanwhile, central Illinois (the last abode) is basking in 95 degrees and stinking high humidity. They're welcome to it!
Perhaps the antibiotics aren't working because you don't have an ear infection. It's possibly a virus, in which case it will take time to clear up. Keep in touch with the witch doctor and take your bio yogurt medicine. I'm sure you'll feel well again soon.

  15. I think something shifted late today, RJA and while not out of the woods I feel things improving.

Yes the woodstove is great and if I had to run it all summer I'd still be happy!

  16. The anti-bs have to actually get to the site of infection, ears are hard to get at, and these days the docs have to pick the right anti-b because the broad spectrum ones are less effective. Sorry to hear you are so sick, get well soon I hope!

Even good things can be stressful, belated congrats on successful play, and I expecct it took every last drop of energy you had and left you vulnerable. Enjoy your downtime!!! (between stabs of pain and whatever due to illness)

  17. Thanks Annie, I've now read the info sheet given with the 2nd anti-b and realize my "flu" is reaction to the drugs. H'm. Read instructions. Always.
I had the ear infection all through the performances so being on alert and on top meant further erosion of healing energy!

  18. An ear infection AND stomach flu? That's nasty. Hope there's an improvement soon.

Rejection and spite is also nasty. Don't even waste time thinking about it, just totally ignore it and concentrate on something constructive.

  19. I think the anti-bs are causing the gastric distress Nick.
    Thanks for the good wishes.
The older I get the less room I have in my life for people who don't wish me well. I've never understood spite and vindictivness and have no time to speculate now.
It is a total waste of time.

  20. Glad to hear you've had a change for the better with your ears. It's not unusual for a viral infection in the ears to turn into a bacterial infection. I'm convinced that was my experience -- was several weeks before all cleared up. Balance probs. assoc, with middle ear issues can result in upset stomach, too -- combination of visual system input.

I'm playing this by ear (lol) as I am still a little off balance but at least no pain.
Anti-bs are savage on the stomach.

  22. I am living with a 95 year old geezer who thinks that I am his kid son. He has lived long enough for your prediction to come true, but would not accept that so has his son. He expects to live for ever and I would not be surprised if he saw me off before he cops it.

    Food for thought what?

  23. R:
I think this is the way old people protect themselves. By being mean. By showing vulnerability they figure they would be a victim.

I remember my F-I-L who was always dying and getting attention and killing my M-I-L in the process.

    Life is so unfair.

Gosh I hope I'm treated OK or that I die before this becomes a problem.

At least you are training your son, what?
